Russia and Ukraine agreed to resume the production in the third quarter of 2008.[10] In May 2008, a new variant—the An-124-150—was announced; it featured several improvements, including a maximum lift capacity of 150 tonnes.[11] However, in May 2009, Antonov's partner, United Aircraft Corporation announced it did not plan production of An-124s in the period 2009–2012.[12] In late 2009, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered production of the aircraft resumed. It is expected that Russia will purchase 20 new aircraft:tsk::tsk::tsk:

Heavy to amassdor car bhi ha. but is it good in terms of running cost, efficiency ,fuel average etc in todays era.


BTW does Russian and Ukrainian has any choice but to stick with Russian millitary hardware

IAF to induct sixth C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft on Monday

NEW DELHI: The Indian Air Force will induct its sixth C-17 Globemasterheavylift transport aircraft on Monday at the Palam air base here. India had signed a deal for procuring 10 C-17 aircraft from the US under a deal worth around Rs 24,000 crore for augmenting its capability to supply loads and troops to the border areas. The sixth aircraft would be inducted in presence of Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, IAF officials said. Jaitley would be given a tour inside the aircraft and would be also briefed about the capabilities of the plane. The IAF has based the aircraft at the Hindan air base near here in Ghaziabad and has flown it extensively across the country in the last seven-eight months of its induction into operational service. Former IAF chief NAK Browne had stated that the C-17 can land on airfields such as the Daulat Beg Oldie in Ladakh near the Line of Actual Control as it needs only 3,500 feet to land whether it is hinterland or border. The C-17, with a capability to carry around 70 tonnes of load and around 150 fully geared troops, has replaced the Russian IL-76 as the biggest aircraft in the IAF inventory till now.

400M for each plane. 4B for 10 planes. Sureshot further 6-7 further purchases as IAF needs commonality in its fleet. Way to keep Uncle in good humour.

Anyway it is a good plane though seriously over-priced.

Hercules and C-17 are for North East. Keeping these seven states in India costs India some really pretty penny. The tax collection from these seven states is just a fraction of actual expenses on them. Same with Kashmir.

You are trying to say that NE and Kashmir are burden for India? Change this attitude mate, NE is self sufficient to feed it's people and the region is blessed with Natural resources that India uses for domestic consumptions. Please update your GK. Who told you that Hercs and C-17 are for NE? People of this region never asked for Hercs and C-17. They asked for the due respect from Indians and their fair share in Development.

My friend, tax collection depends on trade, commerce and industry along with Infra, job creation and other developments. Due to its geographical isolation with Mainland India, none of these have taken place. People of ne believes it is the step motherly attitude of India that kept NE away from development and people like you have no idea about the fact and start posting derogatory remarks in forums, which is not acceptable and it hurts sentiments. Unlike Kashmir, Northeasterners are patriotic and respect the Constitution of India.

So come up with some good and discussion worthy posts rather than spraying venom on Northeast.:mad:

You have come off too strongly. I never said the words you are trying to put on to me.

I know many NE people. I do not have any problem with them.

As for problems, there are problems in many states of India. Jobs are a serious problem in North India too. North Eastern states are better on many indicators compared to states like UP and Bihar.

I am only referring to wastage of money on procurements that do not have appropriate benefit.

I support opening of rail links with China and Myanmar and also trains passing through Bangladesh to connect all areas of north-east with other regions to boost trade.

However security situation (insurgency, crime) is the hindrance. I hope Indian government finds ways to solve these problems.

As for oil and other natural resources, yes NE is important just like other states in the country. Each state has something unique.
