I believe this is in response to the Sunni Mosque bombed in Jamrud, NWFP a week back where over 70 worshipers died.

So you think its sectarian?

Pakistani media seems strangely averse to discussing the sectarian angle - as if its a dirty word - like talking about sex in front of your parents.
And yet, sectarian violence has been a huge contributor to the acts of terrorism.

Gilani was on TV a while back, some Pakistani media reporter asked if RAW was involved, he said we will investigate and let you know.

Of course its sectarian. As for Pak media, Flint, one word summation : Denial.

Shias, who are in minority are being targeted systematically by sunni majority Pakistan, especially after increase in the Taliban influence in Pakistan.

Yes, even I think so, and I think mosque bombings are a sure sign of sectarian violence.

And yet, I have not seen any Pakistani source even mention this fact. If you come across an article that suggest shia-sunni violence do let me know.

A decade back Shia-Sunni sectarian conflict had spiraled out of control, Pak administration did well to curb it. But after 9/11 and rise of Taliban in Pakistan, the Talibs seemed to have revived their struggle against Wajib-ul-Qatl(those who ought to be killed, an euphemism used at times for Shias).

Sir, most sectarian outfits were outlawed and had their powers, assets snatched. The anti-shia sunni groups seem to have been revived and bolstered by Taliban over the last few years.

Today's Khaleej Times seems to mention this sectarian conflict too.

Bomb blast in central Pakistan, scores wounded

ISLAMABAD - A bomb exploded in a religious centre for minority Shia Muslims in central Pakistan on Sunday, wounding scores of people

“According to initial reports there are 40 to 50 casualties. There could be some deaths. We are still collecting details,” Mohammad Mumtaz, a police official told Reuters by telephone.
The explosion took place in Chakwal, a city in Punjab province, as hundreds of people gathered for a religious ceremony.
The blast came a day after eight paramilitary soldiers were killed in a suicide attack in the capital, Islamabad.
Pakistan has a long history of tit-for-tat attacks by militants from majority Sunni and minority Shia Muslim communities in which thousands of people have been killed.

Yes, As Singh mentioned Pakistan has had a major wave of sectarian terror attacks for more than a decade in the 80s and 90s. Shia professionals like doctors in major cities were the major targets as also their worship places. There were major terror outfits like Sipah-e-sahaba, Lashar-e-Jhangavi etc. that were purely sectarian terror outfits. They declined later on as the focus of terrorists shifted but it seems in the current scenario, they are back with a bang.

Though one hates any violence, better within Pakistan than outside, especialy India.

smell the coffee before its too late!

deobandi school of thought has yet again come to haunt and pakistan is being swallowed by this venom rather quickly, in times to come this venom will be subjected to other sects of the muslims as well and if the theory of raw, or in some quarters dia continues then i am sorry pakistan would very very soon be another somalia and believe me then it wont be somaila that would be used as a metaphor but the honours would have been exchanged with pakistan and the days when gorilla warfare amongst these sects starts happening is not far off and then GoP would have practically lost complete control over their country and in all this pakistan army would be just another military force trying to get control of the situation. the major worry one would have is to what extent has this thought penetrated the pakistani army for they are the show runners in pakistan and in case it has done some deep penetrations then todays pakistan would look like heaven than what it could be in times to come and most of us already thing they are in a living hell.

the silence of pakistan army in all this is too deafening and some where it looks they are just not interested in cleaning up this mess probably because they see these same people as assets post the withdrawal of US and nato forces but the question comes to mind is, will there be a pakistan that exists by that time. some 3 years back no one could have thought of pakistan going this way so quickly, their failed status was then more associated with their inefficiency in handling their economy which till then had survived on steroids by getting out side financial assistance, but today the tag gets associated with the security of that state where anarchy is run a mock and this situation seems to be taking pakistan to the era of 70s when bangladesh came into being.

the sooner the pakistan establishment wakes up from its deep state of denial the better for that country for the time is running out for them too quickly. what a waste of an effort by jinnha and his cronies but then this was to happen some day for when the foundation is laid on corrupt and loose ideology and when future generations are fed hate with a cocktail of religious sentiments then this was the least one expected, as srk once said, “picture abhi baki hai mere dost”!

Deobandi thought, Wahabbism and Zia are the three main follies (all 3 are interlinked) in history of Pakistan that are responsible for what we see today's Pakistan as. No body has corrected these follies and we can see its results, destabilization of not only Pakistan but also Afghanistan and attacks on India.
