No one is certain which one. But AK103 and AK203 are same platform will added accessories (Stand corrected) so not a big difference.

Nope, OFB frankenstein creations will have ToT jacked into it by Russians now and sold to Paramilitary Forces. Then to RR and Ghatak groups!
I hope they don't do to the AK what they did to the FN FAL :scared2:

One good outcome of the deal is that we will have 7L discarded INSAS which can be transferred to others, like Baloch people.

Most likely they will be put in reserve. FN FAL (SLR) shares ammo with G3 aka NATO 7.62 x 51 mm. BREN LMG shares the same ammo as well. Simple AKs captured from encounters in J&K can be refurbished and handed to Balochis. 5.56 mm is not used by PA and is thus useless in supply and logistics in guerrilla warfare.

Not sure how much of a future they had in the army considering Imported army snubbed them at every opportunity anyway.
But INSAS was also an imported FN FAL mod, isn't it? Now they've gotten a reliable platform. IDK if there's a lot of sales commission to be earned in lobbying for anything Russian, since the AK series is the cheapest of all assault rifles. If they had ordered a million Tavors, then it would smell of foul play. They went for the cheapest thing which gets the job done. I guess the 50k SIGs will go to the Ghataks?

As long as the big ticket items like tanks, trucks etc are Indian, these small ticket stop gap solutions are fine. If they start lobbying to replace the Arjun with Armata, that would be a red flag.

Not really. INSAS was a rather well designed gun based partly on the Galil ARM and the FN FNC.

Had OFB been diligent, the story would have been much different. OFB fucked up, the rifle wasnt being worked on continuously, nor was the pvt sector allowed to contribute - just take a peek at the explosion of AR15 makers in the US and the sheer quality of the guns and accessories they make - and that doomed INSAS.

As long as defense production in India remains the realm of PSU's whose only purpose is to provide endless employment to the unqualified masses, there will never be any progress in the fundamental QA/QC and delay problems that have always dogged the OFB / HAL et all.

I have little doubt that they will find a way to f**k up even the almost totally unf***able Kalashnikov
