To replace An-32s
Not really. The Airbus C-295 is the replacement for that. C-390 is a large strategic airlifter in the class of C-130J Super Hercules that we operate. Since Antonov is pretty much dead, there is no way we would be buying 108 C-295s to replace them, aircraft to aircraft.

C-390 makes sense that way. 56 C-295 + 50 C-390s would make for an amazing tactical airlift capability. IAF would look good with the following future fleet:

  • An Indo-Brazilian large future cargo transport OR Kawasaki C-2 (replacing the old Il-76)
  • Boeing C-17s
  • New Embraer C-390 + Airbus C-295s
  • Lockheed Martin C-130s
