English translation.
The project basic engineering of the first Brazilian nuclear submarine begins to be developed from July 9 this year when the first group of Brazilian engineers returning from France.

The stage is inserted into the Submarine Development Programme (Prosub) Navy of Brazil (MB), initiated in September 2011 in Itaguai in Rio of January, with the construction of the Scorpene class submarines, French technology, while Initial construction of the submarine powered by nuclear propulsion.

The 26 Brazilian engineers have remained a year and a half in France for studies and the return of the team marks the start of the work on Brazilian soil. A group will be in Rio de Janeiro and elsewhere in Sao Paulo, near the Navy Technology Center (CTMSP) to integrate information regarding the design of propulsion. The program is part of the agreement signed with France in 2008, worth U.S. $ 6.7 billion, which provides for the transfer of technology to Brazil.

Managed by the coordinating body of the General Programme for the Development of Nuclear Submarine Propulsion (Cogesn), the project also includes construction of a shipyard, a base for submarines, a plant for metallic elements, to build four conventional submarines, as well as construction the first nuclear submarine. The agreement, however, does not include nuclear components, while the Navy to design and build its nuclear propulsion system and integrate it to the platform designed in conjunction with the technical French.

Started now, the engineering design of the submarine will end in 2015. In 2016 will start its construction in Itaguaí-RJ, with completion in 2023, to test port and at sea. In 2025, the submarine will enter into its operational phase . Thus, the country will join the select club of countries that have mastered the technology of nuclear propulsion. China, U.S., France, England and Russia are already permanent members of UN Security Council.

The report of the Southern Cross visited Aramar Experimental Center (CEA) in Ipero, due to the commemoration of the anniversary of the Society of Friends of the Navy - Soamar Sorocaba, and interviewed Rear Admiral Luciano Pagano Jr., superintendent of the Nuclear Technology Center Program Navy (CTMSP) in São Paulo, on the progress of the Navy Nuclear Program (SLP), whose purpose is to master the technology needed to design and construction of the submarine with nuclear propulsion.

Leveraging this process, two new facilities were inaugurated recently in CEA Aramar: Unit Production of uranium hexafluoride (Usexa), a landmark for the country in complete mastery of the nuclear fuel cycle, and Dressage Training Center and Nuclear Aramar (Ciana ), a kind of simulator designed to train operators in the nucleus-Generation Laboratory (Labgene) and crews of future submarines. Future plans also provide that the Navy presents a CEA Laboratory of Hydrodynamics (Labhidro) for tests and trials of the shipbuilding industry.

In the month of May, the Navy of Brazil also officially launches in partnership with the Polytechnic University of São Paulo (Poli / USP) the installation of nuclear engineering courses Aramar. The signing of the transfer of the area occurs on the 16th, in Sao Paulo. School has future plans to implement the curriculum also in the naval area.

I have a feeling we are passing more nuclear technology to Brasil than let on. 26 guys going to a French institute is not enough to develop SSN reactors.

Wonder why France didn't jump into Indian project.

Hello all, this is my first post here.

So, straight to the point... Armand2REP, no, you are not because no nuclear technology is being transfered by France to Brazil. The nuclear reactor and all nuclear related technology is going to be developed by Brazil and its institutes. Those 26 engineers are in France to learn solely about naval building techniques for nuclear submarines, such as how to weld its hull (it's way harder than we think), etc. I'm not blaming France, don't worry, it's just that it isn't in the contract that France should transfer anything nuclear-related to Brazilian Navy. I think it is prohibited by UN.

Russia helped design Indian and Chinese submarine reactors so it isn't prohibited by the UN. You don't have to ToT in order to provide consultations and experts. We already have to figure out how to install it, so there are going to be designs made by France for the reactor.

Wiki page on Brazil and weapon of mass destruction says Brazil have the capabilities to make her own nuclear reactor and nothing till now suggest its a french design or technology, maybe to the most France can help with the safety practice for safe handling with their experience, I believe it will be a Brazilian self effort to get one.

Nothing either suggest that Indian reactor is a Russian design.

There is a big difference between making a nuclear reactor for electricity and one for a nuclear submarine. Miniaturization of the reactor for Arihant took India ages.

I never said it was a Russian design, I said they helped design it.

The initial version of the reactor ran into technical obstacles and delay [for one to two decades] after which Russian help was sought to resolve the design glitches. Significantly Indian Prime Minister Singh at the launch thanked "our Russian friends for their consistent and invaluable cooperation, which symbolises the close strategic partnership that we enjoy with Russia".

AUSI OSINT: Arihant - Is its reactor working at sea yet?

Redesigning to fix issues is technological help. That is the same kind of help France will give Brasil imo.

Armand why dont you guys give us scorpene submarine with nuclear reactor.

we already have nuclear sub tech, plus french are bringing above model with nuclear reactor for long time, it is high time that they deliver this on scorpene submarine to India.

Brazil has a good technology base and expertise.

And a whole lot of Nazi scientists who must have passed on their knowledge and expertise!

The town of Pomerode, Santa Catarina has 90% of the population who are Brazilians of German descent,

Argentina had more!
