Why is he talking like a Pakistani? Does he really think that Filipinos would use ballistic missiles against China and simply eliminate any chance to come to a negotiation table in the midst of the conflict? PLA rocket forces will obliterate the Philippines if they were to use ballistic missiles, China's economic heartland of Pearl River Delta would be within Philippine Army's striking range.

I somehow see this as a very positive development for India. We may have finally opened up a new front against China.

Now time is ripe to supply Brahmos to Vietnam but it won't be easy because Chinese have invested quite a bit in Vietnam.

Philippines may lose very little if manages to put a couple of PLAN vessels out of action.

It will legitimize the struggle in SCS.

US and China have been giving rough reach arounds to each other in the region for a long time now.

If there is anyone who will pull the trigger against China first, my bet is on Philippines.
Vietnam doesn't give a fck about CCP's concerns. They have been pestering us for ages to get the missile. Sadly, our governments have been dragging their feet for a long time so as "not to upset China", while Chinese continue to sell their most advanced weapons to everyone around us.

We should freaking arm as many countries as possible that have a beef with the CCP. Japan and Korea are handled by the US so there's no market there. But Vietnam & Indonesia make excellent customers. Indonesia is neutral but it is vary of the PLAN, as their Coast Guard has been on the receiving end of PLAN bullying.

In ASEAN, only Vietnam has the politicla and military guts to take the PLA head-on, no matter what their trade level is with them. PH has a potential but there is a serious disconnect between their military and their civilian leadership.

I also believe this opens up more chances of making money through exports/maintainence etc to other countries and also other missiles.

Between curious to know if we sold shorter range version or the full range version.

Doesn't even make sense, US can't sell any missile range longer than 300km as the Philippines is not a member of the Missile technology control regime, unless it wants to break its own rule. The guy is just making noise for something he doesn't know. If the Philippines was in the MTCR then we could have sold the 300+km missile.

290km version.

we have sold export version of bramhos to them.
The Diplomat mag is suggesting the Philippines has no over the horizon radar capability so against moving targets they will only be able to shoot a few dozen km or so.
Would they be correct?

Can the Philippines’ BrahMos Missiles Really Deter China?

Technological limitations on Manila’s end will limit the missile’s range – and its deterrent factor.

"..... According to Naval Tactics 101, however, one can shoot only as far and as well as your sensors are able to cue you to, especially with regard to moving targets like warships that need to be pinpointed and constantly tracked. A missile system’s sales-brochure range of hundreds of klicks is for nought when your sensors can only detect and track targets at distances much less than of that.

This is exactly the issue that Manila will face, as the BrahMos launcher’s own radar can only provide coverage merely dozens of kilometers out because of the Earth’s curvature. The AFP lacks over-the-horizon radar that could mitigate the problem, but this lacuna is understandable given that such a capability is accessible usually to larger military powers. ....."

if this is actually the case then you guys might be able to get the Filipinos to make some more purchases. planes, radars, electronic equipment, ships, .... and what not.

They have other options for C4I plans and capabilities, going what the chap is a saying brahmos is part of a layered defence not their entire system. we have to assume that US will assist them in over the horizon acquisition capabilities. we have to remember that if brahmos comes into play, escalation ladder is already in near war or war situation, in a war scenario other military assets will also be in play.
