BrahMos missile's air-launched version to hit targets 800 km away: Sources
India is developing a new air-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile which would be able to strike at enemy targets at more than 800 kilometres.

"The extended range version of the BrahMos air-launched missile, with the advantage of being airborne at high altitudes, would enable BrahMos to strike targets at 800 km," top government sources told India Today.

The BrahMos missile was recently in the spotlight after one of them misfired due to a technical malfunction from an Indian Air Force unit during a Command Air Staff Inspection (CASI) there.

The missile landed in Pakistani territory, causing very little damage to property and equipment and no harm to people.

Following the incident, India sent a letter to Pakistani authorities expressing its deep regret for the incident, as well as issuing a statement.

Pakistan is trying to raise the issue of the BrahMos misfiring and calling into question the safety of India's missile arsenal at the international level, but sources say the BrahMos was just a tactical missile.

India has enhanced the range of the tactical missile recently, and it can go beyond 500 kilometres with just an upgrade in its software.

The Indian Air Force has equipped around 40 of its Su-30 combat aircraft with the BrahMos cruise missiles, which can cause heavy destruction in enemy camps.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) had brought these planes to the northern sector from their home base in Thanjavur during the peak of the conflict with China.

Brahmos will be more than enough to send entire Pakistan Navy to the Bottom of the sea. I am talking about the surface ships here and not submarines as Brahmos can only hit surface targets and not Targets under the sea.
  • Currently Pakistan Navy has :-
  • 11 Frigates
  • 2 Destroyers
  • 2 Corvettes
All of these can be sunk using Brahmos only along with other Ashm like KH-31, KH-35. Maybe those Type 54 might be a bit more Difficult as they have more modern Counter measures installed in them.

Our Navy should be reserved to fight China in IOE Mainly but still we should not underestimate Pakistan Navy at the same time too.
Their tariq class destroyers are junkies . Totally incapable of performing well in modern naval warfare .

Hypersonic BrahMos-II missile may include technology from Tsirkon missile — CEO - Military & Defense - TASS

NEW DELHI, August 1. /TASS/. The hypersonic version of the BrahMos cruise missile - the BrahMos-II - will probably have the same specifications as the hypersonic version of the Tsirkon missile, BrahMos Aerospace CEO Atul Rane told TASS Monday, adding that it would take up to five or six years before first flight trials.

According to Atul Rane, "technology bricks" for a hypersonic missile have been designed by both sides.

"If they give us the technology bricks, then we will develop a hypersonic missile," the CEO said.

When asked if the BrahMos-II missile will have some "science" from the Tsirkon missile, Rane said that it is "possible."

He noted that, while the media announced first flight trials for such missile first for 2021 and later for 2024, he believes it would take "five to six year" before the trials will actually take place.

"The whole world is working on hypersonics. I have not seen anyone in the world having hypersonic cruise missiles. Russia says it tested the Tsirkon, developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya," Rane noted, adding that while the US and China are both working on hypersonic cruise missiles, neither country has them yet.

He pointed out that the hypersonic version of the BrahMos missile will be very expensive.

The CEO noted that the BrahMos-II missile will not be exported; instead, it will only be produced for Russia and India.

Rane explained that India, being a party to the Missile Technology Control Regime, may develop missile with range of over 300 km and weight of over 500 kg, but cannot hand it over to third countries.

The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile, developed by the joint Russian-Indian BrahMos Aerospace company. The missile has been jointly developed by Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya and India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The first trial launch took place in 2001. Various versions of this missile have been commissioned to India’s Navy, Air Force and ground forces. BrahMos Aerospace’s headquarters is in New Delhi. The name BrahMos is a combination of names of Brahmaputra River in India and Moskva River in Russia.

So tsirkon is not actually a cruise missile?

The actual problem for Russians may now be guidance I.e. controlling trajectory and seekers/sensors i.e. accuracy for that speeds. They may have overcome material & aerodynamic design constraints but alwyz there are multiple very crucial factors to make a successful product. We may seek some software or hardware assistance from Russia for Brahmos-2. The fact that Brahmos CMD said that propulsion and most of the cruicial parts are going to be indigenous is a big relief.
One of the examples being our SSKs where we have everything to build indigenous SSK but we may just be lagging in Combat Management System which no one is willing to share in P75i and it’s hard to get it at the level we want in first attempt in P76. As already mentioned by MDL, French keep there working on kalveri combat management system secret.

Pakistan bought these Tariq Class destroyers from the British Navy in the year 1993-1994. These ships are more than 25 years old. 1 or 2 Brahmos missiles will be more than enough to send these "Ships" to the bottom of the ocean.

This is what Brahmos is Capable of doing to a ship :-

It would be counter productive to use HSDTV in Brahmos.
Russia holds the other 49.5% Brahmos Aerospace.

In a hyper-sonic CM scramjet engine is them most difficult part. If we have mastered HSDTV then why we need Brahmos Aerospace to manufacture the missile; BDL would be much better choice or even Indian private player. Rest of subsystems like guidance system, mission computers, solid state boosters, etc. are already mastered by us.

What about shauriya????
Shaurya is claimed to have a speed of mach 7.5. Brahmos-II is expected to have a speed of mach 8. So in terms of speed, the Brahmos-II is better than the Shaurya.

Shaurya is a tactical surface to surface missile whereas the Brahmos-II like it's predecessor Brahmos will be used in roles like Anti Ship, surface to surface etc.
