I dont think Playing holi and patrolling a undisturbed border needs bullet proof vests,, be updated dude when you are posting in DFI. Not only BSF but every Paramilitary force in India has Bullet proof vests,,, considering the climate and the amount of rage and guts our forces have ,, we dont need a bullet proof vest for petty days...,,, and for your information Bullet proof vests were provided to them in 2010,,, here is a link that will grow your general knwoledge Bulletproof jackets: Govt to float int`l proposals
I am amazed that we always criticize our forces without any reason,,, @Blackwater please dost ,,, dont like these posts,,, dont lower your value in DFI,,,,
exactly mate i find it quite annoying when some person starts bragging about the lack of BPJs and Kevlar helmets available to our C.A.P.F.s out of nowhere:mad:!what they don't understand is that our climate doesn't permit us to wear all those bulky B.P.J.s(weighing more than 10kgs) all the time.plus our jawans wear them only when they feel that the mission requires them to wear those accessories.
but one thing that i am quite disappointed about is the lack of availibility of level 3 Kevlar helmets to our C.A.P.F.s,these things are quite a life saver in a fire fight!those steel helmets that our jawans wear don't offer protection even against the basic 9 mm round!i wish our H.M. will solve this problem verry soon as our jawans deserve all the best equipment available in the market:sad:!

Sir, plz try and understand every petrol is dangerous, u cannot put your guard down.
I no where mentioned that while playing holi put vests....:p
beheading of our jawans also happened during routine petrol i guess.
What i want is proper equipment for our troops and post says, "Bulletproof jackets: Govt to float int'l proposals" so govt still has to float or have them issued to our jawans?

please don't be naive, have u seen army patrolling in north east and kashmir?
they are almost always wearing bullet prrof vest, never underestimate danger.
learn from past mistake instead of crying later.
mate try to understand one thing, its up to the Jawans to decide whether they'll wear B.P.J.s for a particular mission or not based on the threat perception.the other factor which makes them not to wear those B.P.J.s is that most of these B.P.J.s are obsolete and weighs more than 10kgs.so when your are going for a long range patrolling in the forest or desert this extra weight will make you slow and reduce your mobility and flexibilty!please try to understand one thing that our Jawans are also average human beings like you and me,they are not super humans.
what we really need is level-3 B.P.J.s for every Jawan in C.A.P.F. along with hand free communication and kevlar helmets, but as our C.A.P.F. has over 800,000 strong it will take some time to equip each and every one of them with these state of the art equipment.

shom shom , i can understand ur emotions, motion, jasba, blind love for motherland but ground reality says otherwise:sad::sad::wave::wave::wave:
sir jee its not the blind love for our motherland but the trust that we have on our Armed Forces that make us so confident about them.on the other hand the paki para military forces are by no mean advanced than our C.A.P.F.s when it comes to equipment and training!
just look at their second largest para-military force, the Frontier Corp!i have seen numerous pictures of them and in most of them their jawans are equipped with nothing more than an obsolete G-3 A.R. and a steel helmet with no B.P.J.s and hand free communication devices!
the reality is that most of their jawans are under trained and under-equipped and only a few of them have access to the state of the art equipment and the pakis are clever enough to post only those photos where their soldiers are well armed and equipped!

DRDO / OFB have done a very good job with 105mm Light Guns >>

Army is going for bigger Guns, But Light Guns are still liked by Paramilitary..
sir from what i have understood reading all these materials on B.S.F.,they are turning in to a second Indian Army albeit in a smaller scale!i mean they have got their own aair wing, artillery corp and the next thing they are gonna ask is for some freaking MBTs.please don't take it otherwise but don't you think that they are stepping into Army's areas of expertise slowly but surely!the last thing we would want is an inter-force rivalry between two of the most disciplined forces of this country.

There is no issue if they need for guarding the borders and way for defense, Army is not posted all the places over our borders coz our numbers are not upto it..

For example if tomorrow, Some thing happens in Bangladesh border, A full fledged Army formation will take time to reach and reach but If BSF is well equipped on border then they can handle that itself, its a good thing, In a way there up arming will reduce our work load, Our army is already stretched over border and CT ops..

The issue made out of this will be not from army but one from outside army..

There is another issue regarding our BSF. There are some jawans who are into illegal activities which extends upto rape,,, these problems should be looked into and treated permanently,,,

BSF declares 2013 as 'Year of the Jawan'
New Delhi: In a first of its kind scheme to reach out and help lakhs of its troops, country's second largest paramilitary force BSF has decided to observe 2013 as the 'Year of the Jawan'.

During the year, better healthcare and financial services would be provided to these men and women guarding strategic Indian frontiers, a senior Border Security Force officer said.

The jawans and families of the border guarding force will be given priority loans for education of children while all construction work in forward posts will be done first for the jawans and then for the officers.

Meritorious children of the troopers will now get scholarships sponsored by the force headquarters similar to the Prime Minister's scholarship for wards of central paramilitary forces.
Strict orders for compliance have been issued by the BSF chief and Director General Subhash Joshi making it mandatory that 50 per cent of the welfare funds be kept for jawans.

Under the new scheme, for the 2.45-lakh strong force, BSF will prioritise construction of barracks, cook houses and family quarters of these jawans both at forward locations and at the battalion centres.

As per the blueprint of the 'Year of the Jawan', circulated by the force headquarters here to its locations along Pakistan and Bangladesh borders and Naxal affected zones, a minimum 50 per cent of rewards will be ensured for personnel deployed at border posts and forward locations.

"Advance funds to various BSF units will be provided for medical treatment of jawans and their families. Senior officials have been asked to keep a track of these programmes and submit quarterly reports to the force headquarters," a senior official said.

This is for the first time that schemes in the BSF are being implemented with a focus on jawans who form the backbone of the paramilitary force and render hard duties on the borders and in various parts of the country.

The force has also organised a 'Pension Adalat' at its headquarters here for the first time where post-retirement issues of jawans will be addressed by authorities.

While a number of policy measures have been initiated, the official said, the force has also begun a soft approach for the jawans as it has begun giving them calendar and diaries.

"A jawan sitting at a remote post along the borders or in the North East craves for nothing but only affection and support. Through all these measures we want to ensure that we are with him at all times," another official in the welfare unit of the force said.

Once a year, a jawan posted at a forward location will be allowed to bring his family to the nearest battalion centre for a week as per the new scheme said.

Indo-Bangla war memorial unveiled
TNN | May 26, 2013, 06.44 AM IST
TURA: It was a historic occasion at Kilapara on Saturday as BSF director general Subhash Joshi and director general of Border Guard Bangladesh Major General Aziz Ahmed unveiled the newly renovated war memorial here.

"During the 1971 Indo-Pak War, 83 battalion of BSF was deployed in Tura. Many Bengali refugees and high-ranking political dignitaries of then East Pakistan were taking shelter in a refugee camp at Dalu. On May 25, 1971, the Pakistan army launched an attack on border outpost Kilapara. However, it was repulsed twice by the BSF troops despite being few in numbers. Nine BSF personnel even laid down their lives in an attempt to defend the post. It was the sacrifice of the brave BSF troopers which denied Pakistan strategic control over the Dalu-Tura Road in the Liberation War of Bangladesh," a BSF spokesperson said.

Commandant (Retd) BS Tyagi, the then coy commander of BOP Dalu, was also present during the ceremony. "It was under Tyagi's outstanding leadership, valour and devotion to duty that made the attackers flee Kilapara. His courage and planning saved thousands of Bengali refugees from the Pakistan army," he added. The widow of Captain PC Kalita, who had laid down his life at Kilapara, was also present.

"During the proceedings, the role and contribution of Mohammed Ashifaq, who had deserted the Pakistani air force and joined Mukti Bahini in Mymensingh was also remembered. He had laid down his life in Pak firing," the BSF official said.

The inauguration ceremony was marked by "wreath laying" by DG BSF and DG BGB followed by the "shok shastra", which is a drill carried out for paying respect to the martyrs.

DG BSF described the war memorial as "a constant reminder of the great sacrifices made by the brave soldiers of the BSF during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. DG, BGB stated that BSF has a very important place in their hearts of Bangladeshis for their instrumental role in the Liberation War of Bangladesh. He wished that the bonding between the two border guarding forces would continue with the same spirit, a BSF release read.

Press Trust of India | Updated: May 27, 2013 19:21 IST

BSF jawan from Bidar found dead in Assam
BIDAR, May 25, 2013
A Border Security Force jawan hailing from Bidar district, Rajkumar Bandeppa Bhalke (34), was found dead near the railway station in Kokrajhar district of Assam on May 23. He was posted at Raiganj, West Bengal.

Bhalke, who had secured one month's leave, was to return home, his family said. His brother received a call from BSF officials about Bhalke's death, and was told that the body would reach Bidar on Saturday. The post-mortem was conducted in Assam on Friday.

"If he was travelling to south India, why did he go back north to Assam?" is what the police have yet to understand. "You can board a train from Raiganj to Kolkata, and change trains to reach Hyderabad. You don't need to go to Assam, if you are coming to south India," a senior police officer said.

Bhalke's brother, Veerashetty, said: "when a BSF officer called us on Friday morning, I could not believe it." According to Veerashetty, Bhalke had visited his hometown in Kapalapur village of Bhalki taluk in April. He was to return home after renewing his leave.

A Kapalapur resident, Ramshetty Pannale, remembered Bhalke as a bright and hardworking student. "We are worried about the mystery behind his death. We are hopeful that BSF officials will conduct an investigation and ensure justice," he said.
