Bombers, the evolution

Bombers

When the aircrafts evolved in the early 20th Century after the Historical feet achieved by the Wright brothers , the fighter version of the newly found flying machine rolled out, as respected member and my friend Sailor already created an wonderful thread on this , the another version was created which had its importance and changed the course of the two wars that brought crisis to humanity, these are the new awesome flying monsters , they are called as 'Bombers'.

Now I am starting this thread mainly pictorial about the different bombers they existed from their ancient stage and as they are in this modern world. In this thread , I will also post some picture of famous zeppelins.

If we look forward to history , no dedicated design was made to drop bombs in the early twentieth century, I am talking about mostly 1911's to 1920's, but first bombing raid on enemy position was done by the Italians during the 1911 using zeplins. ( Source: Wikipedia)

The below image from the war is the example (Image : Wikipedia)

The Turkish position is being bombed by the Italians during the aforesaid 1911 war. After many testing first bombs were dropped by using the Aircraft Albatros F -II on October, 16 1912 by Italians. How ever, Germans used Zeppelins in World War -I (Source: Wikipedia)

Great idea for a thread Pintu. Well done.
I'll be able to help you here.

My first entrant is the WW1 Vickers Vimy heavy bomber

General characteristics

* Length: 43 ft 7 in (13.28 m)
* Wingspan: 68 ft 1 in (20.75 m)
* Height: 15 ft 8 in (4.77 m)
* Wing area: 1,330 ft² (123.56 m²)
* Empty weight: 7,104 lb (3,222 kg)
* Max takeoff weight: 10,884 lb (4,937 kg)
* Powerplant: 2× Rolls-Royce Eagle VIII, 360 hp (268.45 kW) each

Performance

* Maximum speed: 100 mph (161 km/h)
* Range: 900 mi (1,448 km)
* Service ceiling: 7,000 ft (2,134 m)
* Power/mass: 0.07 hp/lb (0.11 kW/kg)

Armament

* 1 × .303 in (7.7 mm) Lewis Gun in Scarff ring in nose and 1 × in Scarff ring in mid-fuselage
* 2,476 lb (1,123 kg) of bombs

By October 1918, only three aircraft had been delivered to the Royal Air Force, one of which had been deployed to France for use by the Independent Air Force. The war ended, however, before it could be used on operations. The Vimy only reached full service status in July 1919 when it entered service with 58 Squadron in Egypt. The aircraft formed the main heavy bomber force of the RAF for much of the 1920s.
