Bellatrix Aerospace is a research and development company developing orbital launch vehicles (rockets) and electric propulsion systems for satellites. Today, the space industry plays an indispensable role in our lives. Our mobile phones, TVs, office computers and the internet are all dependent on satellites. Yet, humans have explored only a small chunk of space. Space offers infinite possibilities for a lot of market sectors.

The biggest barrier to open the doors of space for improving life on Earth is the fact that the cost of access to space is exorbitantly high. We are a technology based company and we believe that a revolution in the space technology is what it takes to change the world we live in. In the field of satellite propulsion, Bellatrix offers to reduce satellite mission cost through its patented electric propulsion systems. Bellatrix is dedicated to offer its customers high reliability, short wait periods and competitive costs.

GARUDA



Garuda is an affordable launch vehicle under development at Bellatrix Aerospace. It falls in the medium lift category. It's a two stage rocket designed for complete re-use. It will feature a revolution in the field of rocket engineering by incorporating several innovations such as a next generation propulsion system and ingenious stage recovery mechanisms. Garuda will employ carbon composites in more than 80% of its construction.

Garuda, for the first time, will feature a unique thermodynamic cycle for its first stage engine. This engine called Kalam, will feature combustion tap-off cycle, i.e. it uses a pump-fed engine design with a tap-off cycle to take small amount of combustion gases from main combustion chamber to power the engine turbopumps. This produces high impulse and is much simpler than pre-burning staged combustion because of its single combustion chamber and graceful shut down mode. This engine is designed to generate 800kN thrust in vacuum.

The second stage of Garuda will use a single Aeon engine. This stage is designed for multiple restart capability. The Aeon engine will feature turbo-pumps driven by Brushless DC motors powered by advanced batteries. This will eliminate the need for complex turbo-machinery and highly complex plumbing. This engine is designed to generate 41kN thrust in vacuum.

CHETAK



With advances in technology, nano-satellites are becoming more and more capable. Bellatrix offers a simple and reliable dedicated nano-satellite launch vehicle with an aim to make nano-satellite launches more affordable than ever before. Chetak is a two stage vehicle, where the first stage is designed for reuse. Both the stages of Chetak will use liquid methane as fuel. Chetak features an all-carbon composite construction.

The first stage of Chetak will use a four Aeon engines each capable of generating 41kN of thrust, giving a total thrust of 164kN. This stage is designed for multiple restart capability. The Aeon engine will feature turbo-pumps driven by Brushless DC motors power by advanced batteries. This will eliminate the need for complex turbo-machinery and plumbing.

The second stage of Chetak will use a single Aeon engine. This stage is optimized for vacuum operation at a down rated 21kN thrust. Tis stage is also designed for multiple restart capability.

Wow! Never knew we had private players in space exploration too!

Electric propulsion is not a method suitable for launches from the Earth's surface, as the thrust for such systems is too weak. They should research this more as electric propulsion is far cheaper than conventional chemical propulsion. At present it is used only in space for controlling directional thrusters, orbit raising etc.

i wish if we could develop some technology for deep space exploration/asteroid mining/remote sensing which could be useful for the general public and the economy+military?????

Some of these private companies should also focus cleaning the space junk around the planet. Good development though.

Many companies have many blueprints, blueprints are useless unless somebody is willing to bet monies on them. And we are talking atleast 1000-2000 crores in first five years without any returns. And right now only one such visible Maverick investor (Anil Ambani) exists in india and he is betting heavily on strategic defence contracts not satellites.

Let's see what the future holds...

I have doubts on this company, only time will tell.
Periodically we see such tall claims from non-descript compamies. Usually they have no antecedents, are unlisted in bourses and no workshops to fabricate even a simple contraption.
In 2002-3, a little known Company called CIM Technologies, Bangalore, tricked DRDO into sanctioning some grants claiming it had developed some key technologies related to "Avatar" hyperplane. This company had nothing except a small airfield where they ran a flying club for amateur enthusiasts. Later it metamorphosed into a maintenance and servicing company for small civilian aircrafts, changed its name to Taneja Aerospace Ltd., floated public issue, listed in BSE, NSE and needless to say forgot 'Avatar' in its new avatar! One can still see its penny-stocks languishing in some corner of a share-trading portal.

Absolutely I have no doubt that Indian startups can come up with something similar to spaceX but like spaceX they need to show their proof what they have achieved previously. All bellatrix done is ...nothing... simply papers.

They organised visit of mainstram journos, TV channels to see, film and record and publish their activities. Most importantly, Space X programme has the financial muscle to fabricate complex precision engineering systems. Bellatrix seems exits only on paper.
PS: CIM Technologies was in Hyderabad not Bangalore. Sorry for lapse.

Yep spaceX just didn't happened overnight. Paypal -> SpaceX. It took a huge success of paypal to move to spaceX. How can this guys think, that investors are gonna fund this without any previous achievements? Man ENTREPRENEUR word is getting overused this days isnt it?

We are working with ISRO. 2 more years to get the system space qualified. Prior to that, we are looking out for other small satellite developers to host our nano thruster as an experimental payload.
As for as Chetak launcher is concerned, it's still in preliminary design phase and we're running simulations on its booster engine.
