As the Soviet Army withdrew from Afghanistan, the battle between Afghan Army (PDPA) and the Mujahideen intensified. What Mujahideen thought was now a walkover, proved too much of a work for them. The President of Aghanistan, Dr. Najibullah, also succeeded in getting a few Mujahideen factions to his side. The tide only turned when ex-USSR, now Russian federation stopped supplies and aid to the Afghan government.
