'Opposing the entry of private sector'
So that's what they are afraid of, private companies entering the foray making good weapons which are 100 times better than the paperweights these idiots make.
You see that's why they protest, so that they could continue killing soldiers while sitting at home with their fat paychecks and ridiculous benefits.
And all this is completely supported by idiots in the ministries who are in bed with these people (Nirmala Sitharaman is a communist, so not at all surprising).

"Defence Ministry to prevail upon the Army''.
Yeah we all know what that means, these idiots are probably engaging in underhand dealing with their supporters in the MOD to force their trash rifle/lmg/carbine down the army's throat(as always).
Forcing their trash onto the armed police forces means nothing, the army can hardly get away with it, how could they who have significantly less prowess than them.

Starting with Sreekumar, fire all the idiots who protested which caused defence production to come to a standstill(another reason to do away with these commie DPSUs).
And why is the central govt so scared shitless of these commies that everytime they come out to protest, they drop their pants and bend over for them?
I really don't get it.

State Sponsored Treason/ State Sponsored Fratricide
with the full support of Indians who they keep in the blind by sponsoring articles like these, that's all this is.
It's for the votes delivered to them by unions. Remember 2019 General Elections? The government was raining pay increase and benefits at that time.

If you cannot develop a parallel industry at the same time quickly enough, the PSUs will fire these idiots who will then protest and cause massive political unrest. The strike was diffused in January, now these idiots are flexing the last bit of muscle they have.

Damn thats stupid of them, these communists are such a small vocal minority that they absolutely don't deserve the level of butt licking that they get from the govt.

No recently industrialised country has industrialised itself by allowing the commie unions to run amock like they do in this country.

The amount of damage they have done and continue to do is ridiculous, no different than terrorism.

The communists used to run amock like they do now in India, in the 60s South korea. When
park-chung-hee came to power in Korea he took a strong anti communist stance and gave the boot to these commie idiots causing the economy to flourish which led to the industrialisation of South korea. He fought multiple elections and won them.
I think the fear of losing elections due to these commie unions are a bit bloated, they need to be dealt with like how the south koreans did it.

Basically want a bureaucrat who has executive power but doesn't know which end of the gun the bullet comes out of to decide what weapon Army should be stuck with for next 30 years.

...because they know that anyone who knows their weapons (like a proper Army evaluation team) would throw these guns out of the window if given a choice.

Pretty much like how the IAS bureaucrat Apurva Chandra (MoD's DG, Acquisitions) was the guy leading the MoD visit to Izhevsk...and would have been fool enough to buy AK-103 (without rails, collapsible stock or anything) if the Russians hadn't had the goodwill to tell him "areyy fuddu...take the new 203, it's better".

Admitted, they did it only in their self-interest (203 understandably costs more) but in doing so they served the interest of the Army (in getting a better, more functional system).

'Opposing the entry of private sector'
So that the said bureaucrats don't know any better when it comes to seeking solutions...as the OFB would happily remain the sole-source supplier of all things that launch kinetic projectiles.

Indian Army to test AK-203 in carbine role also against terrorists
The assault rife would be provided to troops for carrying out anti-terrorist operations. A separate tender is being floated to buy 93,000 carbines under fast track procedure.

The Indian Army is planning to use a modified version of the AK-203 assault rifle in carbine role for its troops deployed during counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The AK-203 assault rifle would be manufactured at Uttar Pradesh's Amethi facility in a joint venture between the Ordnance Factory Board and Russia.

The assault rife would be provided to troops for carrying out anti-terrorist operations. A separate tender is being floated to buy 93,000 carbines under fast track procedure.

"We want to try out the AK-203 in the carbine role. We can remove the rifle's butt completely to reduce its size and then it can be hidden easily under clothes to be used in close quarter combat operations against terrorists," top Army sources told ANI.

"If needed, more modifications can be done in the AK-203 to suit the carbine role requirement," they said.

"The carbines are also useful in close quarter combat and can be highly effective during operations like room interventions."

"Efforts are under process to acquire 93,000 carbines and the Defence Ministry has formed an oversight committee to look into the case."

A senior Lieutenant General-rank officer has been
appointed as the member of the committee including other members from the Defence Ministry and the DRDO.

The Defence Ministry is expected to take a call once the oversight committee submits its report.

The Central government has already finalised contracts for buying two types of modern assault rifles for the Army.

The government is also thinking to meet the requirement of carbines through foreign vendors initially and then through 'Make in India' programme under which more than three lakh carbines would be manufactured at an Indian facility.

.......the new sighting system that guides the 6.8mm round on target, says the Defense Department official responsible for making Army and Marine infantry squads more lethal. “This is fire control,” he said.
Plans also include developing a new 6.8 mm round to improve warfighters’ performance in close- and long-range fights. Similar to features on the XM25, the optics will be able to help soldiers adjust their aim points with an electromagnetic trigger.

Requirements for the new device include a direct view optic with a digital overlay display, laser range finder, ballistic calculator and atmospheric sensor suite, according to a special notice released on FedBizOpps in December.

OFB - Ishapore Sniper Rifle, 7.62x51mm
Sad to say our pathetic. Thrid grade. OFB Board cannot even compete with Pakistani road side gun manufacturers. organizations like OFB board bring shame to the nation. OFB board. A nation which can send rockets to space but struggling to build a single rifle.

No, it's from the same company. They have kits for SVD and AKs were they take out the barrel completely.

SVD - second mod with the same stock

AK
At least, they have guts to experiment with muzzle brake of AK. Even, the Kalashanikov Concern has abandoned their legacy muzzle brakes for AK 203 and opted for newer honey comb M-brake/flash hider. But here, we are continuing the same old ones in Ghataks/TARs.
It would be interesting to know about performance of AR style M-brakes on AK for the mitigation of muzzle climb. It seems they have also changed the original muzzle brake of SVD. Interesting !! Please update if such a comparison gets available.

Diplomatic sources here said that supply details would be discussed in detail during the visit of the official Indian delegation to the US stating September 21, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump. Defence news India The delegation also includes a large number of Indian business honchos, including chiefs of public and privatesector oil companies.

I just read this article https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/why-ak-12-rifle-never-became-russias-weapon-future-84001 and I can't seem to understand why the hell they choose the ak203 instead of the ak15 when everybody knows it's better ?
Ohh dear we were going to buy AK 103 it was our slight good luck and russian business sense to earn money they told dumb Babu's to go for AK 203 . But now since AK 15 are cleared should we buy them?

No matter what comes we will be going light ahead from the cheap OFB copies

What is the cost of AK 15 rifle and accessories compare to SIG 716 or caracal carbine?

The AK 15 is basically a free floating barrel AK 203. Free floating barrels are great for DMR but become expensive for general infantry. The AK 203 is a modernised and more ergonomic variant of AK 103.

I did read that they also mentioned them being lighter but expensive..

Do you have any cost comparison data for Ak 203 / 15 vs Caracal carbine and Sig 716 with their associated accessories
