Digambar Patowary and Sanjib Kr Baruah,

Indigenous Assamese Muslim groups joined the All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Friday in charging the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal with fanning communal sentiments in the wake of the recent violence in Assam.

Jatiya Parisad (SAGMJP), an influential body of about 25 lakh Assamese Muslims, held Ajmal responsible for Northeast students and workers leaving Maharastra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

SAGMJP president Sahiruddin Ali Ahmed said, "Ajmal said the clash in Kokrajhar and Chirang was between Muslims and Bodo tribals. All Muslims are not involved in the clash. Ajmal is trying to consolidate his political position by indulging in communal politics."

SAGMJP and AASU also blamed the Gogoi government for not taking stern action against "a section of Muslim politicians" whose inflammatory comments triggered Kokrajhar clash.

"Ajmal has been neglecting Assamese Muslims rights from the day of creation of the AIUDF. His political outfit is only concerned about the interests of Muslims of Bangladeshi origin," said Ahmed.

Guwahati-based lawyer Nekibur Zaman said, "By talking about Bodos versus Muslims, we are communalising the issue and playing into the hands of fundamentalist forces."

Indigenous Assamese Muslims are considered to be quite distinct from the immigrant Muslims of Bangladeshi origin.

Underscoring the differences with the immigrants, Zaman said: "Because the indigenous Assamese Muslims never thought of a separate political space ... Bengali-speaking Bangladeshi Muslims cornered all benefits meant for religious minorities".

Ajmal responsible for backlash: AASU

staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 16 – The All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Thursday demanded of the Centre and State Governments to ensure security to the students and professionals outside the State and pressed on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to immediately send a team of Ministers to the States where a backlash has been triggered against the people of Assam following the BTAD violence.

The AASU called upon the State Government to initiate the necessary action to bring back the body of Sanjay Rai of Kokrajhar who was a victim of the backlash in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. The body of Rai is lying at present at Sompata Government Hospital.

The student body held AIUDF leader Badaruddin Ajmal responsible for the backlash in other parts of the country and strongly warned Ajmal to desist from giving a communal colour to the BTAD conflict.

Addressing media persons here, functionaries of the student body, adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya, president Sankar Prasad Rai and general secretary Tapan Gogoi said that Assam and other States in the North East are part of India and people of the region have the right to study and work anywhere in India without fear.

"It is very unfortunate that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is sitting idle at this hour of crisis. He should act and instill confidence in our students and professionals," said Bhattacharya adding that the AASU has got in touch with the Chief Minister of Karnataka, the Union Home Secretary and the Assam Association in Bangalore in connection to the exodus of students and professionals.

"Exodus is not the solution to the problem. The government must act strongly against those harassing the people of the region," said Bhattacharya asserting that implementation of the Assam Accord can only bring permanent peace to the State.

Finally, saner voices are being heard! More political and media space need to be given to the indigenous Assamese Muslims while simultaneously, bumping of those immigrants involved in these riots.

mr.tarun gogoi say that mr.ajmal wants his friend to replace gogoi as cm.
though mr. ajmal say tarun gogoi his good friend
aiudf got 55% vote of indian bengali muslim in assembly election.
congress got 40% vote of indian bengali muslim in assembly election.
ajmal wants those 40% vote.
if he can get another 20%out of 40%vote he could win at least 4 lokshaba seat now he has 1.
he can surely win barpeta, karimganj lokshaba seat and silchar seat if he could get another 50% of congress minority vote.

All this 'Indignant Muslim reaction' all over the country has got skewed for the Muslims.

The people of the NE are the most secluded lot who have no interest in Indian politics and have never interfered or commented on it.

And by targeting them, through a well orchestrated hate campaign, the Muslim organisers of the same have got the ire of the Nation against the Muslims across the communal and community spectrum, Owassi, the skunk notwithstanding!

Now the Muslims are running scared!

They are worried that many Gujarats may erupt!

How is it that Ajmal is being blamed?

Has not the Minority Commission said it is a conflict between Bodo and legal Muslims of Assam?

Ajmal is the voice of the 'legal' Muslims!

He is merely doing his duty to Islam and Allah!

Why blame him when the Minority Commission says that it is legal Muslims vs Bodos.

He is an elected rep of the Muslims (one can say illegals, if they wish) and should he not espouse the cause of the poor, unfortunate, beleaguered Muslims?

What took you guys so long?
show us some sane Muslim voices (apart from yours and which I will vouch for any day and which is such a rarity) and we shall buy that!

This nonsense against the NE chaps is utter nonsense. It is orchestrated and as you have said there is no doubt it is a foreign hand, agitating the lumpen elements!

For a mere talk of deportation and that too of illegal Bangladeshi migrants, muslims have kicked up such a ruckus all over the country. You think they will sit by when the process actually starts ?. Dangerous times ahead.

The ruckus has not started because of deportation plans.
