Arrest warrant against Bal Thackeray for inflammatory remarks
PTI 5 September 2009, 12:44pm IST

ARA (BIHAR): A Bihar court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray for allegedly making uncharitable and
inflammatory remarks against people of Bihar in his party mouthpiece 'Saamna'.

Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate (Bhojpur) Rakesh Pati Tiwari ordered issuance of the NBW against the Sena founder after Thackeray failed to appear before him in compliance with his July 7 order.

Tiwari had issued bailable warrant of arrest asking Thackeray to present his side on a complaint filed by a senior advocate Rajesh Kumar Singh in the court in 2008 accusing the Sena leader of making comments against Biharis in the party mouthpiece.

As Thackeray failed to comply with his order either by presenting himself or his lawyer before the court to explain his position, he ordered the issuance of the NBW on Friday.

Sena dares Govt over arrest warrant against Thackeray

Mumbai: Shiv Sena on Saturday dared the government to arrest party chief Bal Thackeray after a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued by a Bihar court against the Sena supremo for allegedly making uncharitable and inflammatory remarks against Biharis in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

"The Sena chief was arrested earlier and the government has seen what happens when he is arrested. I don't think they will commit the mistake again," Thackeray's son and Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said, reacting to the development.

"We have not received the warrant. We have learnt of the development through media," Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said.

"The party will comment on the issue only after receiving and going through the copy," Gorhe said.
