It is interesting that both have similar configuration, there must be advantages as they represent most modern level.

Also, ammunition storage of Kurganets module, in turret bastle represents an improvement over earlier BMP-3 and most of modern practice, which stored it within hull



It improves crew safety with isolation of module, and makes more interior space.

BAE Banking on Hybrid-Electric Combat Vehicle

BAE Systems just put out a new infographic detailing the benefits of the hybrid electric drive system the company has developed for the Army's Ground Combat Vehicle competition. If selected, it would be the first hybrid combat vehicle ever fielded. The graphic illustrates how BAE's hybrid system will ensure its GCV offering is faster, quieter and more fuel-efficient than standard 70-ton combat vehicles.

BAE's release of its hybrid-electric infographic comes on the heels of a Congressional Budget Office report that states that the Army's GCV may have to weigh as much as 84 tons for the vehicle to meet the service's list of requirements. This would make the GCV heavier than the 64-ton M1A2 Abrams tank and more than twice as heavy as the 33-ton M2A3 Bradley fighting vehicle its replacing.

It has been difficult for Army officials to refute such estimates since the service didn't set a weight limit for the new vehicle to avoid trade-offs in soldier protection, lethality and survivability.

The requirement that the GCV carry a nine-man squad and the remaining crew inside the vehicle's protected volume is a primary factor in setting the size, weight, and cost of the GCV, the CBO maintains.

The Army announced an initial acquisition goal of 1,874 vehicles with production of the vehicle starting in 2018. The Army issued a revised RFP in November 2010 after the initial solicitation were deemed too ambitious and created a real possibility that high technical risks and immature technologies would lead to spiraling costs and schedule delays.

The revised RFP left some flexibility in how the contractor could address the requirements and designated a manufacturing cost of between $9 million and $10.5 million per vehicle, an average procurement unit cost of $13 million per vehicle, and a
sustainment cost of $200 per mile of operation. In August 2011, the Army awarded contracts valued at about $450 million each to BAE and General Dynamics Land Systems.

I do not belive that HED is ready for such heavy vehicles yet, though it have potential and future, although GDLS designed more compact and lighter vehicle, so have bigger chances than BAe.

Modernization of the BRDM-2DP for Africa. Has a machine gun 12.7 mm DSHKM and two side machine guns 7.62mm SGMT. Protivokumulyativnymi screens protect from the shot of PG-7VM. As a heart a is set diesel engine.

I really like the BTR-T and BMPT-64 concepts could be useful to convert our old T-55.I prefer the BMPT-64.

Can anyone shed light on the status of the Tarmour upgrade?

The BTR-T is the cheapest and fast alteration of T-54(55). Created under the influence of the Israeli IFV "Achzarit". His main drawback - a big engine "B" series and as a consequence - a small troop compartment in 5 people. Besides Troopers should leave the IFV through the hot engine .



BMP-55, a more advanced modifications, consequently, more expensive. Engine series "5TD" and the transmission is installed in the front, but IFV has more crew and greater landing separation ( on 10 persons).



BMPT-64, built on the same scheme, but on the basis of the T-64A. This summer has passed military tests. According to his results, it redesigns and preparing for state tests.

An IFV with an 7-8 team squad makes sense five guys is too low if you ask me.

For Urban warfare that is a situation like Battle of Grozny is it better to arm the IFV with 30mm or 12.7mm gun?

Also any indication of the upgrade price Ukraine package.

Expensive if you ask me.

What about the use of ERA of HIFV its pretty hazardous given that such vehicle are expected to move in with infantry.

Do you have any idea how the Knife era compares say to Kontact 5 on Indian T-90

"Knife" ERA works on different principle than "Kontakt-5".

"Knife" is based on a linear shaped charges, instead of two steel plates with explosive material inbetween them.

This means that "Knife" is literally a knife, it cuts enemy projectile be it kinetic energy penetrator or shaped charge jet, in to small pieces, easier to stop by the main armor. "Knife" is better design than "Kontakt-5".
