Armenia’s appeal to Russia implies the possibility of military support, and the volumes of this support will be discussed during consultations , This is about holding urgent consultations in accordance to our intergovernmental treaty. We believe that the threat is already near our borders and in some cases already in our territory. That’s why we believe that we can rely on the existing bilateral treaty. the Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toghanyan told RIA Novosti

Well, I wouldn't say they 'deserved' it, nobody deserves such cruelty but they had it coming never the less. Perhaps now they'll wake up to the reality.
Well in the early 2000s when Putin was hammering the radicals in Caucasus they were preaching about the legality and morality of his actions.

I'm not denying that, the western Europeans are a naive bunch of motherfuckers but still, I don't think those poor elderly women in that church or that school teacher for that matter, deserved their fate. But as I said, they had it coming.

According to Azerbaijan MOD;

During the day on November 1, units of the Armenian armed forces attempted to attack the Zangilan site of the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border.

The enemy fired at the positions of our units using mortars and various large-caliber weapons in order to seize a number of favorable high grounds in this direction.
The intention of the enemy to attack was detected in time by our units and as a result of the successful operation, the opposite side suffered heavy losses.

During the battle, the enemy, which lost about 30 personnel was forced to retreat to the territory of Armenia.
Due to the vigilance of our units’ military personnel, the enemy's Su-25 attack aircraft, which attacked our positions from the air, was also shot down.

Ya'll Nibbiars Russia warns Azerbaijan Indirectly it's allies Turkey, Pakistan and Militia Groups that it will Intervene if War Spreads to the Border of Armenia.
Armenia and its people are still waiting but nobody has showed up yet. Azeris are moving South, South-West along the border with Iran trying to cut mainland Armenia from Artsakh trapping thousands of innocent Armenians inside and if the Azeris some how managed to cut Republic of Artsakh of the Armenian mainland you can guess what they will do to the native population after. Massacres and even Genocide to displace thousands of people so they can move in there own Azeri population into these now depopulated areas to colonize the lands.

It's 1915 all over again..
Some regions of Azerbaijan have been under occupation by Armenia since 1993. This occupation is registered by the United Nations. The UN asked Armenia to leave the occupied areas.

UN:

Condemns the recent violations of the ceasefire established between the parties; calls upon the Government of Armenia to use its influence to achieve compliance by the Armenians of the Nagorny Karabakh region of the Azerbaijani Republic with resolutions 822 (1993), 853 (1993) and 874 (1993), and to ensure that the forces involved are not provided with the means to extend their military campaign further; demands from the parties concerned the immediate cessation of armed hostilities, the unilateral withdrawal of occupying forces from the Zangelan district and the city of Goradiz, and the withdrawal of occupying forces from other recently occupied areas of the Azerbaijani Republic in accordance with the "Adjusted timetable of urgent steps to implement Security Council resolutions 822 (1993) and 853 (1993)" (S/26522, appendix) as amended by the CSCE Minsk Group meeting in Vienna of 2 to 8 Nov. 1993; strongly urges the parties concerned to resume promptly and to make effective and permanent the ceasefire established as a result of the direct contacts undertaken with the assistance of the Government of the Russian Federation in support of the CSCE Minsk Group; urges again all States in the region to refrain from any hostile acts and from any interference or intervention, which would lead to the widening of the conflict and undermine peace and security in the region; requests the Secretary-General and relevant international agencies to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the affected civilian population.
