This was copied from Leopard2. The Germans were certainly no amateurs & they still haven't changed it!.. I have a theory about this.

And it's not just the issue of the positioning of the gunner's sight, there are other more troubling issues as well. For example,
a. The turret is significantly wider as compared to that of Leo 2,

b. The armor behind the gunner's sight has also been proven to be thinner from available photographs of the turret interior as that section does not extend farther backward to compensate for the room taken up by the sight a is the case in Leo 2s,

c. The mantlet appears to be wider as well and hence it leaves a larger section in the front vulnerable and the list just goes on.

The magenta line is -15° representing max possible gun depression. Only if the gunner-sight is placed on the front can it look down at such angle (blue). If it were on the top it would only be able to look down -10° (green)... Now that the design issue exists they might as well make the most of it!
No big deal really!! Just place the gunner's sight on a raised platform atop the roof (just like we were discussing raising the section above the main gun) and have it tilting a few degrees forward!! Or alternatively, place it on a raisable must like what has been done with the NAMICA.

At that angle, standing in a dip in ground or against a ridge, not only very little of it will be visible but any penetration would actually go out of the roof.
Nothing to disagree there, depression is good. We don't need a happy tank, we need a sad one!! Lolzz.
I'm not sure why nobody cares about the gun-mantle though. Leopard, Leclerc, even T-90 has the centre of silhouette left thin.
Not just the ones you named but it's true for virtually every modern MBT there is. In earlier times, the mantlet used to be the most heavily protected section of a tank, now the turret cheeks have taken up that place.
Otherwise not that much of weak spots compared to T-XX.
Apart from the upper left section and that huge lower glacis plate (much bigger than that of the T-XX). The only saving grace is that there is a large fuel tank with armored bulkheads right behind the glacis and the hull ammo stowage getting compartmentalized and fitted with blow-off panels. That's an improvement over the Leo 2 and most other modern MBTs with hull ammo stowage.

The hull is pretty great, with the roof mounted driver's seat & fuel-tank cum ammo stowage with downward panels. Just needs better sideskirt to come the IR signature...

...amd maybe a smaller engine 1500hp allowing expanded bustle on turret. If they actually manage to fit an autoloader then, a semi-unmanned turret, with the crew climbing down all the way to the hull.

Yeah, the hull is alright, but they need to add composite armor panels in the lower hull front.

And as you can see from behind tank ex can actually have a larger turret-bustle than Arjun... Check out my post in T-72/90 thread.
Yep and still the guys at CVRDE didn't get the idea of modifying the bustle. Speaks volumes about our so called IITians, doesn't it??

See the thing is we enthusiasts understand this better than IITans... The possibility would have been pointed out to them if an army attache was working with them. That's the main problem.

Does arjun have any future? @Bleh Why bother with this rather than going for upgrades of T90/72?
Doubt it... Unlike Tejas it has recieved 15 years of neglect & like the T-90S, is itself quite outdated. The Mark1A is an unwieldy jugaad. Let's see if any Mark alterations are revealed as Mark2.
Regarding T-72/90 improvements see my last few posts in their thread.

Whatever is to happen we will know by 2025.

DRDO successfully test fires its Laser-Guided Anti Tank Guided Missile from MBT Arjun Tank
In a major boost for Indian defence forces, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday (September 29) successfully testfired its Laser-Guided Anti Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) from MBT Arjun Tank at KK Ranges, Armoured Corps Centre and School (ACC&S) Ahmednagar.

According to DRDO, in these tests, ATGM successfully defeated a target at 3 km. “The missile employs a tandem HEAT warhead to defeat Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) protected armoured vehicles. It has been developed with multiple-platform launch capability and is currently undergoing technical evaluation trials from a gun of MBT Arjun,” said the DRDO.

On Tuesday, the DRDO also conducted the successful flight test of ABHYAS–High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT). The flight test was done from the Interim Test Range, Balasore in Odisha.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the the successful flight test of ABHYAS a milestone and said that ABHYAS can be used as a target for evaluation of various Missile systems.

DRDO has designed Abhyas on an in-line small gas turbine engine and it the device uses indigenously developed micro-electro-mechanical systems-based system for navigation and guidance.DRDO has adopted its Lakshya tow body to design the fuselage for the Abhyas. The fuselage consists of five sections, namely the nose cone, equipment bay, fuel tank bay, air intake bay and tail cone.

Mobility wise, Arjun's the best we've got at present.
However fact remains that with preparations T90 can snorkel past upto 5m deep rivers. Arjun some have that feature.

Personally I think it should be an important feature to be incorporated in fmbt to have all the edges rubberised to seal of any water ingress (T-XX requir linings of putty)

Are there IIT guys working in CVRDE ? As far as I know IITians are happy settling in US or earning fat salary from MNCs or doing MBA to earn even more fat salaries from MNCs (and in the process proving that they certainly didn't deserve to study engg only to end up drawing pie charts in excel sheets !)
