The important point the partial report did not mention is the short distance at which the missile failed is 500 meters.
1) 500 meters is not sufficient for any missile to get a bearing on the target.
2) The absurdity of requirement of short distance of 500 meter was never questioned. Because at this short time it is efficient to use the cannon/gun, wasting a missile with sensor is inefficient. No question on why this short distance requirement for missile and how it will affect in real battle situation.
No further discussion and the capability was quietly buried.

Similarly, in another tank vs tank trial Arjun was penalized for demonstrating the ability to accurately fire the gun while moving, which T-90 cannot.
Arjun tank's story is not a saga, it is a tragedy, till date. I hope someday it gets an opportunity to play its role and demonstrate its capability just like how Vande Bharat a.k.a train-18 came back.

There is no such thing as "getting a bearing".
Most common mode of guidance for gun launched missiles are laser; either Semi-Active or Beam Riding and both the system starts working as soon as the missile's gyroscope reaches it's optimum RPM. (The IR seeker of AAM can track a heat source even if the plane is standing on the tarmac).

Even missiles like NLAW that uses Predicted Line of Sight guidance where you need to follow the target for few seconds before firing has a minimum range as low as 20m.

You're in your tank moving through a field and suddenly you notice the barrel of a tank sticking from a dugout some 500 meters from you (The so called hull down defensive position), how will you engage it with your main gun?

Your only option is to fire an ATGM and engage it in top-attack

Almost all modern tanks have two axis gun stabilization, you can look up that very famous video of Krauts balancing a beer mug on Leo's gun. T-90s can engage targets while moving at 30km/h

Wrong; NLAW don't even have a seeker to have visibility...it uses INS (Inertial Navigation System).

90% of all currently active missile; from small ATGM to ICBM have INS guidance.

Wrong; atleast in case of Russian tanks that use auto-loaders for ATGMs too. It's just a matter of selecting a round.

Are you sure? Coz afaik tanks as old as T-64 have gun stabilization and can fire on the move. There is literally a video from Ukraine where an Ukrainian T-64 engages a Russian T-72 on the move.

Even in one Army promo video the colonel said T-90 can only do static to moving, or moving to static.
