Is it because Pakistan is equipped with F16 or will the United States have political requirements?
There are members who'll be better to answer that question
But we have a Baby Aviation industry, it is nowhere near that of US Russia or China
We have the Tejas order of 83 numbers just signed,
We have the Bigger Tejas Mk2 MWF coming up
Best thing for IAF is to put h for 36 more rafales and go full swing with nurturing the Indigenous industry
Wouldn't make sense to just get the F16 for the heck of it and/or as stopgaps, it is a foolish thing to do

It’s a wise decision to protect your aviation industry

Exactly why I said poor regimes. Weren't we dirt poor until like late 90s.

JF17 is better than F16s. JF17 is a 4.99++ gen fighter. Infact it's on the same level as F35 and Rafeeel.

(PDF logic)

In all seriousness Argentina doesn't have much choice. For them its either this Chinki Jet or no Jet.
On ur 1st point..No it wasn't about rich or poor It's just dat we were in ruskie block dat time So it wasn't about we couldn't afford those weapons but west wouldn't sell it in first place And russian weapons were comparable to western ones 50 years ago..Also blanket calling every russy weapons system junk is not right cause even today russian hold advantage over west in rockets, missiles, air defence, radars(on par wid west), disinfo/propaganda, cyber domain..while Americans got advantage in fighters, jet engines, Bvr, EW, submarines, carriers, economy, overall R&D and human resources..

Already bought, the performance is good, the price is reasonable, similar to F16
F16? come on !!! it barely matches the specs of FOC Tejas...and if it was really as good as F16, PLAAF wud have inducted them instead of costlier J10! a sense of proportion is warranted...besides , Argentina is the country that lost to subsonic harriers despite having superior supersonic Mirages during falklands...just like all the othe export customers of JF17...Argentinian military is also not that reputable.

Let’s not mention the JF17, the Harrier is terrible.
The 22:0 result was achieved, first. There was a problem with the organization of the campaign in Argentina, and second, AIM9L
But he never did his duty as a carrier aircraft

Is there any beef between Brazil and Argentina?
No. This purchase is just part of a modernization plan of Argentinean armed forces. Brazil and others South American countries also have their modernization plans.

Brazil choose the Saab Gripen to equip his air force, while the Chile, that also has borders with Argentina, opted by the F-16. So the Argentina, to dont stay away decided by the JF-17.

Argentina's dispute is over the Malvinas/Falklands Islands. To conquer the islands from British they need to arm themselves much more.

The tendency is Argentina to equip its armed forces with Chinese weapons, since Western world hardly will sell top military machines if Argentinean aims are hostile to UK. And Argentina's economy also faces difficulties, so they need cheap things.

Recently they also bought a Chinese frigate.

Falklands ?

Argentina to be a pawn for PRC China and again Pakistan areas are playing westwards (without realising)?
I say it is good news, we will have more input of JF-17 performance. It is also good news, that this jet is getting export market. They managed to shrug off the Russians, that in itself is a feat.

We dont really know if this budget is going to be executed, so...its not a certain thing that the aircraft is going to be purchased.

Where!!!!, last naval purchase were the French OPVs!!!

Folks, the decision is not final. Apparently, there will still be offers and counter offers before the final decision is made. This was announced only to get better offers. There are a few factors behind Argentina's decision apart from compelling competitors to offer better deals:

  1. Argentinian economy is struggling and they are badly out of cash - it makes sense to buy something that is modern, yet low-cost to satisfy their immediate air defence needs.
  2. Argentina is not facing any major adversary. They have strong trade and people-to-people ties with all their bordering countries and do not want to ruffle the bigger players' feathers. i.e. Brazil, Colombia & Venezuela.
  3. The biggest theatre of conflict that Argentinian Air Force will face would be providing CAS to their special forces fighting drug cartel armies near the borders of Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay. They don't need heavy firepower for dealing with these COIN and CAS operations.
  4. Taking back Las Malvinas is still not their plan at a time like now when they are going through a fourth recession since 2000s. They won't be fighting the UK for another 20 years, which would be sufficient time for them to make an economic comeback and then buy more advanced jets to reinforce their claim in the future, say, in the 2040s, when the UK would be on the ebb.
  5. Argentina has no political or military conflicts with China and is instead increasing their commercial ties with them, just like us. Since they are not involved in regional geopolitics that we see in Asia, Middle East and Europe, we will have to analyze this only from a financial perspective.
JF-17 or should I say, FC-1 therefore, makes a lot more sense for them. Although they would have been better getting the Russian YAK-130, Italian Leonardo M-346 or Korean KAI A-50s for that price.

Why the twitter handle is saying they rejected Tejas? Did we even offer them considering British objections? Also I dont think US offered any of their jets either.
Man, we need to do something about the British and American components in Tejas. Kaveri is still nowhere in sight, though GRSE is confident of getting the engine out in time for the AMCA and TEDBF. I never understand why we buy British and American stuff even when we know the amount of restrictions they have for end user control.

Snecma M88 would have made so much more sense for Tejas. But MoD babus are so selfish and short-sighted that they don't see all this.
