Communication forms an important component of national security. Civil aviation is a part of it.Frequent lightning strikes by the commercial pilots creates untold problems, not only for the passengers but also for the country. In line with the Territorial Army,Railway Battalions ,should we not create a similar force consisting of trained commercial pilots? Like TA, they could be trained two months a year and take on non combat flying duties of the Air Force when needed.

its not possible and viable. airforce is a lot different from army. missile vs guns. apc vs jets. even the basic technical details could be too much for cadets

One could have an Territorial Air Force.

The problem will be that the pilots will not be certified to fly aircraft since not only will they have to do conversion training, but also be current.

If the commercial and military aircraft were of the same design as in Russia, maybe there would have been no problem.

You cannot risk the lives of passengers in the hands of stop gap pilots. Not happening, cannot be allowed.

If they can make a TA Air-force is good option..

There is a huge vacant seat for Pilots in IAF..

TA in Indian Army is actively Involve in CT ops in J&K and they are good..

An IAF based on Terrier concept would be Tpt Oriented rather than engaging in pure combat. More over it wont be rationalised for cost to benefit ratio on Training of Air Crew as against their service tenure.

In simple terms could lead to Air Coprs like Irish Air Corps.

Bottom Line for a Nation like our - Nonviable.

The thread may please be viewed in light of the recent strike by Air India pilots. It will provide the Govt.with options.moreover, when necessary, they could undertake the non-combat flying of IAF.
