It's only a matter of time.

Our naval industry has already overshadowed the Russians by a enormous margin barring submarine construction.

Today India can construct ships of tonnage that the Russians can only dream of.

Similar our aerospace and ground forces industry has gained a edge over the Russians in many fields.

Unfortunately India even in naval lacks advanced tech for submarines vis a vis Russia (nuclear and conventional) . We need to bridge that gap soon
However for surface ships we are doing very good compared to Russia

Turbofan Engines technology

Which the Core Aviation infrastructure.

Russians are only second to Americans
In this regard

And it's all Because of Lack funding to there
Defense and economic constraints
There industry


Had Russians had even half economy of Americans

US might had been sitting bricks 😅

Ya'll Nibbiars And the ROK has been working on since 2001. And still delivering a 4 plus generations aircrafts after like 3 decades.

And here we are crushing our Tejas which has delivered a fuctional aircraft after three decades with a potential line ups of 4 plus generations aircrafts.

Yes, Japan used the right approach: sort out an engine in good time to avoid ending up with a production aircraft with no engine, the position in which India and Turkey currently find themselves. Turkey's position is even worse - it seems that permission to use the GE F100 for the prototype TF-X may not be forthcoming from US Congress.


As for dumping AMCA and starting on a 6G aircraft... ???

Europeans are also looking at developing 6G aircraft - FCAS, Tempest. Of course, that depends on what is considered to be 5G or a generation ahead. Not sure about either project actually getting the go ahead, though.

Use common sense. We started designing amca even before we finalized design of lca mk2. And we were also in partnership with Russia for fgfa which later got cancelled.

What it means that we are actually designing 3 jets simultaneously lca mk2 , amca and fgfa while producing lca mk1.

So once we are done with mk2 design and put it into production we will again have resources to design more jets along with amca. Our 6th gen design could be ready by the time amca starts induction.

Difference between mk2 prototype in 2022 and amca in 2024 is just 2 -3 years.

6 th gen prototype might come earlier then expected . Probably by 2032-34.

DudeI hope you know what you are saying! US? And behind Japa? Dude America is way ahead of the Japanese in this field and Matter!

The Americans have already reportedly flown the first Prototype of Their 6th Generation Aircraft of Project NGAD(Next Generation Air Dominance)

These articles are Saying that US flew the 1st prototype literally in September 2020! So they are Way ahead of the Japanese and any other country in this field!

Japan is at least 3 centuries ahead of us in overall technological prowess. We should not be comparing ourselves to them. They have a few benefits:

  1. A very committed government regardless of political parties or coalitions - The Japanese care about their nation a lot and it doesn't matter who it is, they prioritize their domestic sector over anything else.
  2. Their mastery in practically all core technologies: Aerospace grade alloys, steel-making, propulsion engineering, >80 years of aircraft manufacturing experience, powerful semiconductor industry, and a carbon composites industry that is even the envy of the Americans (cough cough....Teijin & Torei)
  3. America's blessings: The US will not give them F-22s, but everything else to make sure that they can more than stand up to the PLAN. Japan is more closely allied with 'murica than the entire NATO combined. It has access to the best that Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman & Boeing can offer.
ADA and ARDC might have a better chance of collaborating with Mitsubishi and Kawasaki and try to fine-tune the weak points that we have and those areas where they are already experts without American involvement. For example, aircraft weight reduction, better aerodynamics, and maybe, even Kaveri (which is currently being tested with Russia's Gromov Research Institute).

Not to mention that the Japanese are partnering with the United Kingdom for the Project Tempest.

XF9 engine, XA 100 VC Engine, and RR engine for tempest (with very high electrical power) will be used as templates for a domestic high thrust military turbofan. If India decides to be conservative in approach then our engine will be an F414 EPE type, which can be achieved with a JV with Snecma. If it decides to go all out then they will try to imbibe the XF9's small form factor with the XA100 VCE's versatility and the RR's revolutionary high electrical power generation capability. Lets see which approach is taken. It won't be easy or cheap.
There is no middle ground in either case.
