Kuntal's model.. I'm utilising the spare shots with potential, that otherwise get thrown away.

BTW after size-scalings the likey TRM count of AMCA Uttam seems atleast 1500 (Note: this is not official data).
If 1500 scaling is done right than assume capacity of 1800+. GaAs GaN difference. Anyhow not sure what is optimum value required as just having large number of TRM is not endgame for radars.

I'm no expert, but shouldn't we wait for official reports? There are also other factors, like power output to be considered. 1500 or 1800 TRMs will take a lot of juice. Don't count the chickens before the eggs hatch.

Absolutely true. Just making educated guesses for discussion points. J-20 with 2000+ have 150KN engine. Similarly f-35 with 1800 have 190KN. AMCA even with F414 is 98KN each so power is not the issue. Its more of what is necessary as in many articles it is clearly stated that TRMs are important part but not end all be all of radars.

Is South Korea’s new KF-21 fighter similar to India’s AMCA stealth jet?

South Korea on Friday unveiled the prototype of its new ‘4.5 generation’ fighter dubbed the KF-21 Boramae (young hawk trained for hunting), nearly 20 years after the project to build it was announced. A fighter of the 4.5 generation is classified as having high manoeuvrability, advanced weapons for air-to-air and air-to-surface missions, features to reduce radar signature and integration of radar and infra-red sensors. A 4.5 generation fighter carries its weapons on external hardpoints on the wings and fuselage, unlike 5th generation aircraft that have internal weapons bays to increase stealth.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Indonesian Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto were among the key participants at the launch of the fighter.

In 2001, then South Korean president Kim Dae Jung had pledged to develop an indigenous fighter for the country by 2015 to replace its fleet of F-4 and F-5 aircraft.

In 2019, reports emerged Indonesia was backtracking on its commitments to the KF-21 project. Indonesia had agreed to provide $1.3 billion to buy 48 aircraft and also secure transfer of technology for it. However, Indonesia has provided only around $202 million so far, Yonhap reported. South Korea and Indonesia are continuing talks on the project.

History of KF-21

The formal development of the KF-21 fighter began in late 2015. According to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, the country had allocated $7.9 billion to develop and build 120 KF-21 fighters.

The KF-21, a twin-engine aircraft, is capable of carrying up to 7.7 tonnes of weapons and fuel under its wings and fuselage.

The first flight of the KF-21 is expected to be completed in 2022. The KF-21 resembles the US F-35 stealth fighter outwardly. South Korea is a user of the F-35, and the KF-21 has been touted as a “cheaper, less-stealthy alternative” to the US jet.

The current variant of the KF-21 does not feature an internal weapons bay, but future variants could have it. “Based on this 4.5 generation platform, South Korea will be capable of building more advanced versions down the road,” professor Bang Hyo-Choong of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) told Yonhap.

South Korea is purchasing air-to-air missiles for the first KF-21 batch from European companies MBDA and Diehl BGT.

South Korea has adopted a phased development approach to building the KF-21. “The KF-X Block I will not have an internal weapons carriage, which is planned for subsequent production blocks. The initial version will also lack air-to-ground striking capability since the home-grown long-range air-to-ground missile is to be developed by the mid-2020s,” Defense News reported in 2019. Israeli company Elbit is assisting in the development of the radar of the KF-21.

KF-21 and AMCA

The KF-21 will be powered by two F414 engines, built by US company GE. GE delivered the first F414 engines to South Korea last year. Interestingly, the F414 will also power the initial variants of India’s under-development Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) stealth fighter. The DRDO currently plans to fly the first prototype of the AMCA by 2025.

The AMCA will be similar to the KF-21 in being a twin-engine fighter with an approximate take-off weight of around 25 tonnes.

While similar in layout to the KF-21, the AMCA is being designed with an internal weapons bay. The DRDO has also hinted at developing an unmanned version of the AMCA. In February this year, A.K. Ghosh, the director of the AMCA project for DRDO, told The New Indian Express, “We have plans in future to incorporate 6th generation technologies, where it will be possible to fly AMCA aircraft in an autonomous mode for dangerous missions.”

The Indian Air Force currently expects to buy up to 125 AMCA fighters. According to reports, the first two squadrons of AMCA jets would be powered by the F414 engines, while the remaining ones would be equipped with a higher-thrust engine to be developed in India with foreign assistance.

Majority of it is not indigenised and Korea will have to work a lot on its indigenisation. But a good effort by them to get it to fly next year. Meanwhile Pakistanis who were making fun of our LCA Programme citing some foreign components like AESA Radar from Israel, Engine from USA, E/W Suite from Israel. Their own Junk Fighter-17 Blunder has nothing Pakistani to boast of. But they will call Tejas as non-Indian due to foreign tech involved but will call KF-X Korean aircraft and Bayrakter TB-2 as Turkish drone with majority of outsourced foreign components not knowing that it is the end product origin that matters not the origin of components in an Aircraft. While AMCA’s indigenisation will be a tight slap to the Porkistanis as Porkis themselves can’t match the Aerospace prowess of India.

In the coming years, our aerospace efforts will bore fruit. Mark 2, Mark 1A, AMCA MK1, TEDBF, AMCA MK2 will continue to come, one after another.

After that, what Pakistan , China? No country in the world will be able to criticize India. Let them laugh at us now, we will laugh at them tomorrow. Every dog has its day, even a zero can become a hero someday. Keep calm and carry on.

No one's denying that koreans did great job, indeed they did but criticizing Indian efforts blindly in such area is not good.
Both countries have their different approaches w.r.t stealth 5th gen aircrafts
My point was to tell some people who were criticizing Indian tejas and AMCA since KFX rollout which doesn't even has relevance

Did you saw the above post?
That how Indian R&D is ahead of SK in aerospace
I mean Amca is more advanced design with obviously more features and would require more time.
There is nothing over enthusiasm in it.
Thats why you should never compare the one with Paper and on ground...They've the flight in hand which means more time to test, improve and develop the tech and Mature, while we write in piece of paper that we would have this and that.
Mark my words.. the bloody Iranians would build a proper 5th gen fighter based on their kiddish design earlier than us

KFX isn't even on ground and is a 4.5th gen aircraft, why the rant then?
If India had to go similar way with basic design it would have done and dusted with flight took earlier than KFX did you even know that similar KFX design was chosen like 4-5 years earlier we would have made it but we went for more advanced design.
For KFX to be an FGFA it needs to make block 2 which would require advanced stealth technologies and eventually would take time.
By then AMCA would have rollout and first flight
I believe that the deadline for first flight of amca by 2025 would be achieved.

Koreans aren't even trying on the level of AMCA . They will only do so after successful completion of kfx as a 4.5 gen aircraft.

Our 4.5 gen jets are MWF and tedbf. Even su30mki is also 4.5 gen in which there is already indian mission computers and weaponry is included . ( Irst and maws under development.).

Amca is simply a generation ahead of kfx .

Even then we are far ahead of koreans

We have uttam aesa already on lca lsp.
D29 ew suit developed indigenously.
Maws / irst already in development for su30mki and MWF.
Sepentine intake already done.
Air to air Astra version already coming in
Sfdr already in testing mode.
Air to ground bramhos already here, rudram and bramhos ng already in Development.

Large area display already ready for MWF and amca.

Now compare how many of these things south korean have indigenously currently in either production or live testing.
