Makes sense. Why are people under the delusion that the AMCA will mount to anything in the next 10-15 years. Even a basic upgrade like Tejas MK2 is taking forever with 100 different excuses for the delays from different parties. Buying off-shelf fighters while ADA/HAL lumbers on is the best option, since the chinkus will have more 5th gen fighters than the entire IAF combat fleet in a few years.

Sir, the biggest question is if the Muricans will give us their best fighter aircrafts. We have S-400 SAMs which can be used to know the weaknesses of F-35(the US might question us about this). Also, there might be some conditions related to Russian oil or Russian partnership which we would might not compromise with.

People, it's not basic upgrade .....it's a complete redesign of the entire aircraft from top to bottom, it's a completely new aircraft

And this design did not come into realization until 2019, so technically the program is only 4 years old.
All the design iterations of the Tejas Mk2 before 2019 were a largely enlarged Tejas Mk1 with additional load carrying capacity.

As if Americans will give them easily.Even if we order the F35 now, the first plane will arrive only by 2030's,subjected to approval by US congress.
And buying American jets will come with severe and unacceptable terms and conditions which can include things like allowing American bases.Will the government be ready to accept that ?

it will delay it indefinitely, thus indirectly killing it. Remember, we do not have unlimited money. Now choose, in house development or giving away the money to foreign countries?

Well if the government is able to swallow it's pride,pay Americans premium $'s and compromise on sovereignty,then probably they will give us the machine.

I've dealt with American turbine manufacturers. These crafty people are extremely possessive about their technology.Even if you buy their things, they will make sure that you truly will never have full ownership of the product. There will be too many restrictions on you.

Besides the 10-20 aircraft which India can afford at max will make more of a dent in the foreign reserves than on the battlefield.
