What about the USN LHD's i believe the USMC still operates the harrier from them.
Yeah, raider... I agree.Actually, LHD can carry only Harrier class aircraft fixed winged aircraft for offensive roles and they are called multi-purpose ships as their aircraft configuration is decided based on the mission requirements, they can carry attack helicopters for ground assault support ops, troop carrier helicopters for assault, rescue ops, ASW helicopters for ASW roles as well as Harriers for ground attack and air support roles. Its not necessary that they will carry fixed wing aircraft at all times.....even the Italian Navy's Cavour is a large sized LHD..... whereas aircraft carriers are different from LHDs as they carry mostly fixed wing aircrafts performing various roles at all times....

Looking at the deck scematics i think the we won't be able to lauch and recover an aircraft simultaniously.
For carriers with catapult facility and blast deflectors can lauch and recover an aircraft simultaniously.
This can be a serious drawback/shortcoming.

I don't think India will require this type of simultaneous landing takeoff configuration, even France's current & future carriers don't have it ...but i agree; having catapults is a great advantage...more aircrafts get parking space on the deck & heavier platforms like the E-2D can be launched.
