The new beginning between Afghanistan and Pakistan

A high level Afghan delegation visited Pakistan last week and it was widely reported that several issues pertaining to common challenges of terrorism in the Af/Pak region were discussed. It was also reported that after the meetings Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to formulate joint strategy over security challenges. You can read the news article below:

http://dunyanews.tv/index.php/en/Pak...late-joint-str

The blame game between Pakistan and Afghanistan has often taken the focus off the importance of staying united against common enemies. Meanwhile, the terrorists continue to push ahead with their agenda on both sides of the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. To make matters worse, there have been many reports and speculations in regards to Daesh also establishing its foothold near the Afghanistan and Pakistan border.

http://tribune.com.pk/story/757200/s...into-pakistan/

It is no secret that the terrorists would like to see both nations remain tangled in their differences while clearing the way for their terrorist activities. We have always emphasized the importance of shared cooperation and assistance between the regional partners. State Department spokesman John Kirby said last week: “It is in the urgent interest of both countries to eliminate safe havens and to reduce the operational capacity of the Taliban on both sides of the border”.

Given the seriousness of the situation, it is great to see Afghanistan and Pakistani officials meeting and addressing their shared concerns. The U.S., Pakistan and Afghanistan share a common stance against terrorism, and we certainly hope these meetings unify both nations in regards to their shared peace objectives in the region.

In your opinion, how important is it for both nations to iron out any differences and work together to secure and stabilize the region?

@Neo, Again, pretty lame attempt. Wish to be respected as a poster, try good sources. It works.

According to SIGAR, the loss of 8.5 percent of the ANA's force to attrition has left it will a smaller number of troops than it had at the start of last year.

Since you don't have a number for officers, let's assume it to be the same as soldiers.

50*8.5% = 4.25

So all in all India looses its 4.25 officers trained by it but adds minimum 50 every year. Sounds like a good enough deal to me.

Some more for you to chew on;

The second senior government official said National Security Advisor AK Doval made the impossible possible. Just days before the nurses were taken to Mosul from Tikrit by the ISIS, he air-dashed to Damascus and used his Syrian contacts to get through to two former very senior generals in the now defunct Saddam Hussein army.

"These generals were convinced to intervene on behalf of India with the ISIS. Several Baathists are aligned with the ISIS and they spoke to higher ups in the militant outfit and secured a promise that the nurses would be released," said the second government official.

................................................................

And not to rub it in your face but Afghans actually love India and hate Pakistan to their very core. The same Afghans that India trains ends up in a firefight with the Pak sponsored Taliban. I am sure they feel indebted to Pak for that.:pound:

I quoted a post from US CENTCOM. Apparently he takes the claim more seriously to mention than you do.

And sure, go ahead and celebrate every little anti Pak news you can gather from the media, it won't change the fact that you've lost Afghanistan.

China favours role in Afghan peace talks, appreciates Pakistan's efforts

BEIJING: A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Friday said that the country is in favour of playing a constructive role in Afghanistan's peace and reconciliation process, said a report on the government news service Xinhua.

The statements by spokesperson Hua Chunying come after recent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan which may put a damper on reconciliation efforts.

Hua said that China is consistent in its support for the "Afghan-led and Afghan-owned" reconciliation process, mentioning China's support for peace talks between the Afghan Taliban and Afghan government.

The spokesperson also noted Pakistan's significant role in the peace talks and said that China hopes that those involved in the talks continue to make efforts to ensure peace in Afghanistan.

Pakistan last month hosted inaugural talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, who are fighting to re-establish hard-line Islamist rule more than 13 years after the US-led military intervention that toppled their regime.

Many in Afghanistan accuse Pakistan of being host to Taliban bases that are used to plan attacks such as the bombings over the weekend. Pakistan, which faces its own Taliban insurgency, denies that it has actively allowed its territory to be used in this way.

“Our priority of course is reconciliation,” Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz had said.

Three attacks last week shocked Kabul in their scope and brutality. A truck bomb exploded early Friday morning, flattening a city block and killing 15 people and wounding 240 as they slept, authorities said.

Hours later, a suicide bomber killed at least 20 cadets outside a police academy, while another 10 people died in an attack on a military camp used by US Army Special Forces. On Monday, an attack near Kabul's airport killed five people.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for most of the attacks.

Meanwhile, fighting in Baghlan between Afghan forces and the Taliban has killed two police officers, said Jaweed Basharat, the provincial police spokesman. He said the fighting in the Dahana-I-Ghori district began on Tuesday.

The Taliban, who regularly exaggerate their claims, issued a statement, claiming a much higher police casualties figure.

Peddle that BS to people who don't know who Ali Khan is and what his job is.

Since you never learn and always come for more. Open your eyes to the reality. All you have is a very unpopular President, nothing more and Afghans still hate you for ruining their country.

Afghans increasingly frustrated with Ashraf Ghani over security, economy

http://www.latimes.com/world/afghanistan-pakistan/la-fg-afghanistan-frustration-20150430-story.html

"To report that dozens more were killed and injured would make the security forces look weak and incapable and the opposition strong and capable," said Abdul-Rahim Saraf, 40, a nongovernmental organization employee who buried four of his friends and neighbors after the attack. "In 14 years, we've never witnessed anything like this."

Fears and Hopes of a Hamid Karzai Comeback in Kabul

President Ashraf Ghani has struggled to govern in his 10 months in office

In June, Mr. Karzai was received with full honors by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He reiterated in Moscow his support of the annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula. Mr. Putin gave a much colder reception to Mr. Ghani, who attended a regional summit in Russia weeks later.

Afghanistan’s former leader also maintains connections in Tehran, New Delhi and Beijing. And he remains popular among the Afghan people, who increasingly associate his rule with the times of relative plenty and security, even though both were provided by the Western allies with whom he frequently clashed.

The picture I posted of the young man in Indian army fatigues is Zubair Massoud, Advisor to The National Security Council.

There have recently been reports of peace talks taking place between the Taliban and the Afghan government in Pakistan. Both your uncle and your grandfather were assassinated by the group – do you believe in peace talks?

I believe in peace but not peace at any price. Throughout history we’ve seen countries that are fighting conventional wars or insurgencies that have a reconciliation or peace commissions which have representatives speaking on behalf of both parties. Before any reconciliation we first have to see where we stand – are we speaking to the enemy from a dominant position or has the enemy taken the upper hand in the war? Only through military and political pressure will the enemy be fully ready to lay down their arms and that is when the reconciliation process will have results.

Theyare not struggling they are willingly keeping afghan air force down as a sop to pakis. High time Russia, India and Iran provided them with better stuff.Mi-35, Mig-29's and 27's.

The Afghans are right. They are not being consulted in the matter. The Americans are assuming that the Afghans are too simple to be able to field a proper weapons platform. The problem is not the level of training required to operate more advanced machines, they already have a few pilots of Mi-35s. Thus with some time spent on training abroad, new pilots can learn to fly a true military aircraft.

Maybe we should play the middleman and get the Afghans some spares from the Russians to keep their assets running. Simultaneously we could offer them HAL Rudras at a subsidized price with a training package here in India. I know that the Rudras cost approximately 9 times as much as a MD-530F and the afghans could only have bought about 20 such machines at the cost of what it bought the MD-530F for but the Rudra is better armed and has a higher service ceiling. With parts for the 5 Mi-35s as well, the afghan air force would have had a 25 strong attack helicopter force.
This would have been much more useful than the 54 odd MD-530Fs with their crappy .50 cal machine guns, no gunsights and low service ceiling:rage:.

The issues with complex repair can also be solved with initial maintenance crews sourced from India who will then teach their Afghan counterparts on-the-job and once trained, let them take over.:)

Edit : Maybe later on we could give the Afghan Air Force a few LCHs at a subsidised cost?
But that ship has sailed.....they invested in the MD-530Fs:dude:

As, we all have learned that USA forces are going to stay till 2016 and numbers will go down in 2017. Are the doors open to increase the troops count in case of increased attacks by Taliban's?

It is becoming very clear that Taliban is trying to make comeback with the help of Pakistan Army as was seen with the recent beheading of seven Hazara's. U.S.A. and other countries will have to decide the next course of action whether to stay and ask for help from other neighbouring countries except Pakistan. In this joint effort help from Russia should be asked as well in order to end alienation of Russia.

In order to stem the popularity of Taliban, ISIS and fragments of Al-Quida we should focus on education and development to bring employment in the country.

It's not who is standing along with Modi in the picture that is important, but the portrait on the wall.
The relationship with Northern alliance is still strong, I guess...
