If India goes for Rafael what do you think when the deliveries will start given that Dassault already has its handful with orders from other countries?
3 years from the deal signing. Dassault can ramp up production for exports or alternatively it can priorities Indian orders over french airforce orders.

Unlikely it will, it has Qatari orders stacked too.
Iirc they have already ramped up production to 3 rafale per month (36 annually). With more orders they can probably take it to 4 per month for few years.
But they can always manage by putting French orders on hold while they deliver export orders first.

Can someone ask HAL/ADA why the fuck the date has kept being shifted behind and how these chiefs were making bombastic comments about the roll out and first flight? I am sure there are many defence handles here or on twitter who have connections

They will just lie again, because there were zero consequences the first time.
Remember, in the 'real' non-samosa world outside of samosa PSUs, there are consequences for not delivering on time.

Don't worry we will get our product when it's well and truly obsolete.

It's an assumption. I don't think the laws of probability should be used while making decisions related to national security.

First LCA MK2 Prototype to be tested in France - Alpha Defense Hindi
  • A prototype will be sent to France this May for wing tunnel testing of intake of MWF for certification of same. Takes budget from 6500 cr allocated in September 2022.
  • A home-grown facility for same function was proposed but was never sanctioned.
  • Earlier plan was to send prototype to Russia what was dropped in view of Russia-Ukraine war.
  • Since GoI has already paid offsets in Rafael deal, wind tunnel testing in France will be free of cost.
  • First flight will only happen on 2024.

Didn't offset deal mean that the money has to be invested back in India. Why are we using it to provide business back to Dassault in france

The LCA Tejas Mark II with GE-414 engine is expected to roll out next year after completion of air intake test certification in France in May-June this year. Since the air intake of Mark II is similar to Mark I, the DRDO is confident about bagging the certification and rolling out the first prototype by next year.

What the fuck?! We need to get our own wind tunnel testing. Why do we keep leaving our secrets to outsiders????

The shortsightness of our babus are the reason why our programs keep facing delay after delay!!!

we already give order to build hypersonic wind tunnel testing facility to AMCA. may be that facility not build yet. thats why we r sending Tejas mark 2 to france. otherwise its dont make sense, coz we need to build AMCA nd tedbf also. we cant send them to other countries.

Don't have wind tunnel, have to wait till france gives us slot.
Don't have test bed for jet engine, have to wait till Russia gives us slot.
Don't have sufficient testing courses for artillery, our private manufactures have to wait for slot.

This is a country not serious about defence.

Israeli radar, American engine, British seat. It's already the most compromised jet in the world. I would not even worry about security anymore. Atleast the swedes have their own avionics.

For saving costs.

There would have been no difference even if a tunnel was approved. It would take a good amount of money and years of construction before putting to use. It isn't easy to get money sanctioned from government either. So aircraft would anyways be tested on foreign soil.

Since RFD analysis was already undertaken, tunnel testing is redundant for Indian aircraft which explains why no priority to build an indigenous tunnel wasn't there.

Is this the last plane we will ever build?

Iteration testing is crucial to building the knowledge base and therefore having a homegrown testing site is key to building that knowledge base quickly and cheaply. You pay the most in the beginning but you reap the benefits the most in the end repaying that cost tenfold.
