Were the conformal fuel tanks present in the final rendition of MK2 before metal cutting was started? I guess this was a mod done later during design finalization stage which led to program's delay.

Conformal Fuel Tanks does not affect design changes much. It is just an attachment like a Drop Tank with a difference of flushly fitted with no way to drop. Also, from the picture shared it looks like a symmetrical design. Meaning there will not significantly changes in CG and CP of the Aircraft.

some common sense from the IAF chief

AMCA - the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft - programme is due for a key milestone, the completion of the critical design review (CDR) by the end of 2022. The AMCA project director AK Ghosh has been recently quoted stating that the first prototype of India’s futuristic fighter will roll out by end-2025 and the deadline for the first flight is 2026-27.

The only significant foreign collaboration sought by the ADA is for the development of a 110 kN engine to power the futuristic fighter. The French Safran, British Rolls Royce and American General Electric are competing to offer collaboration backed by their respective Governments.

But now, the IAF Chief has advised “prudence” of foreign tie-ups as a back-up for development of “alternative systems and sensors” just in case the indigenous effort slips on deadlines.

--------

Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari expressed the same anxiety with respect to the LCA Mk-2. “LCA Mk-2 was initially planned to be rolled out in 2018. CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) approval for the design and development of the aircraft has been granted recently. Readiness for flight testing is envisaged by 2024 followed by induction from 2030-31. This is an aggressive timeline and we hope that ADA and HAL will be able to meet it,” he stated.

only gods know if/when any of these things happen .
It says tejas mk2 was supposed to be rolled out in 2018 . But now induction ll start from 2030-31 due to delay . Can anyone say , why this delay happen ?

That 2018 roll out was for old Mk-2 version( the version without canards)
If what you say is true and that caused delay of 10 years , i wld have prefered the old design . When those migs are crashing and number of fighter jets are declining . We are already developing AMCA . IAF is also issuing RFI for 20 billion$ worth MRCA next year . Dont get it if those canards were worth 10 years But anyway it is what it is .

The current design iteration added not only canards, but it was longer 850mm longer and 300mm wider compared to LCA Mk2-2014 version.
Internal fuel capacity increased from 2672kg to 3300kg and payload carrying capacity increased to 6500kg from 4500kg.
All these are important changes to put the LCA Mk2 in the same class as the Mirage 2000 and make it a true medium weight fighter.

My point was , if it was worth it . We wld have got the previous version much earlier . HAL wld have earned profit by domestic demand and export . Time is everything . There is opportunity cost . And Squadron strength is suffering .

Regarding higher version AMCA is already under development . And remember that ORCA episode , which IAF refused . May be that wld have been approved .

We have anyway choosed this path , hopefully IAF timeline does nt face further delay .

I have three questions,
1.mk2 design is freezed right? So no dsi when it enters production right?

2. Are they gonna follow tejas route like entering lsp with mk1 standards(no sensor suites) then later upgraded to mk1a standards

3.Is the metal cutting started yet?

1.Yes! Design is freezed, NO DSI
2.There will total 4 prototypes, all four are production standard aircrafts, 1st two IOC standard and last 2 FOC standard....they will have every sensor from day 1
3. Yes

We are going to retire the Mirage 2000, MiG 29 and Jaguar squadrons by the 2030s. We don't have the money to make 150-200 Rafale fighter jets in house with ToT and license production ($60-70 billion if initiated today i.e in 2022).

All MiG 21 squadrons will be replaced by 2025.

Meanwhile the Chinese in 2022 have 550+ J10 (IAI Lavi derived F16 class single engine fighter jet), 450+ J11 (Su 27 copy), 250+ J16 (Su 30 copy), around 100+ Su 27/Su 30M/Su 35 and 200 J20 fifth generation stealth fighter jets.

We need JAS39 E/F Gripen style single fighter jets en masse to counter such a surge and establish minimum credible deterrence for a 2 front war. That is where 200+ Tejas MK2/MWF come into play with their GE414 engines. The Tejas MK1A ~123 also help. AMCA ~ 100+ also help balance the scales.

However for that to happen, we need a stable government till 2040 and massive expenditure in MIC.

Have there been any leaks about aero structures for mk2 being fabricated etc ..
HAL claimed that they will go for "jigless" assembly but recently we got news that the jig for mk2 is in place . What does jigless even mean .
Any info is appreciated.

How..?
The roll out is in 2023 end
The first flight is in let's say end 2024
4 years of trail (i.e start of 2025 to end of 2029)by that mk2 should be in production by the end of 2029 and about end of 2030 there should be squadron with 6 extra planes.

Where is the extra year coming from?

How ? Just like 1st roll out is delayed by a year .. everything can be delayed as well.
Risk hai.
