Covids effects were primarily on LCA production partners.. Making 3 MWF prototypes shouldn't be hurt.
Tejas Mk2 shall be a game changer in many sense but the most important thing which it will provide shall be a huge savings in operating cost. It can perform many rolls which can be performed by Rafale and MKIs. Its operating cost shall be about 1/3rd of MKI and almost half of Rafale. Gripen E and Tejas Mk2 shall dominate this category of fighters.

America will try to sabotage tejas mk2 as they know it would be pinnacle of aerospace industry and another international player would rise.
If it doesn't it would be a surprise.
Americans? you would have export lobby dudes in our own country trying first

India, UK agree on technology collaboration for combat aircraft

A 10-year roadmap unveiled at the summit for boosting overall India-UK ties mentioned broadening dialogue on "combat air collaboration to determine how the UK can support India's ambitions for their light combat air MK2 programme".

There is no doubt that if inducted in large numbers to replace all Jags, MiG-29UPGs and Mirage-2000s it will transform the IAF's warfighting abilities.

The fact that it is indigenous and can be upgraded as and when required, and integrated with weapons that the IAF wants (as long as they're not blocked the way the Meteor was), itself will mean a lot.

Capability wise, it will be quite something with

- AESA radar with roadmap to upgrade to GaN Uttam radar for the later production batches
- IRST
- MAWS
- Integrated SPJ
- State of the art cockpit with new HUD, LAD and side stick controller
- 6.5 tons of payload in beast mode
- IFR capability and OBOGS to give 10-12 hours of missions where refueling tanker availability and pilot endurance will be the limiting factors
- Ability to carry 8 BVRAAMs and that too of the Astra Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 class as well as the Beyond Visual ranged Astra IR missile as well..
- Ability to carry and launch SCALP ALCMs and possibly the Brahmos NG ALCM whenever that actually sees service entry.
- Ability to carry the Spice series of PGMs, plus all the LGBs in IAF inventory..who knows maybe they may integrate Hammer PGMs as well if stocks are large enough

not to mention it will be a platform to test all kinds of technology , a perfect testbed for all future fighter aircraft programmes , not to mention money saved can be funnelled to other programmes.

London has agreed to work closely together in support of India’s indigenous development of the Light Combat Aircraft Mark 2.
Agreeing to work closely could mean a lot or a little co-operation. The only capability that I see as definitely missing where MWF is concerned is an indigenous engine capability. Is the UK PM saying that the UK government would not block ToT if India and RR wanted to develop a new engine to power MWF?

I completely agree with you, hoping to see a 170-200 order of mk2 soon.
But, would prefer buying more rafale than sukhoi as low availability and high maintenance!
egypt signed the contract for 30 more for $4.5billion. Getting 36-72 more rafale will give a immense qualitative boost to IAF!
They are the next best thing after Stealth fighter & carry nukes if needed for China!
just Buy more MK1A instead of Su30 , Su30 era gone ...that plane is outdated .

Maybe , UK might face sime cash crunch for defense project , threats are evolving , money acquired from India can be used in engine deveolpment of tempest , no harm in it .

We will surely bargain for almost all of ip or at max some joint ip , rr can use this project as td for their experience and use a bigger engine for tempest .

We are working with European companies which have virtually ejected the UK from their state of the art projects and Visa versa. Respectively. Its will be a crime working with Rolls Royce for at least 30 years in the future when geo politics will get the exited back to a better cooperative footing. So I believe working with GE is a better choice, and red coat stooges in your face. Also we are talking about coutries and companies which we need to partner more and leave the exited out to cool down their industry and hope to see them work below the radar. The virtual conglomorate of coutries other the the UK have a better business potential and would appreciate the Brexit to carry forward with high priority partners - Republic Of India

What happened when India was interested in buying the SAAB Viggen (which used a US-designed engine) in the 1970's?

What happened to US involvement with LCA after India conducted a nuclear test?

What will happen to security of supplies of GE fighter engines/spares when India starts receiving S-400?
