The LCD display in F35 cockpit is slightly curved
Its camera lens effect, another pic from side angle

resolution is also better
or both are same?
I'm not sure of the resolution factor but looks same to me especially in the off angle

AMCA's cockpit is going to be a similar variant of Mk2s right?
That's what everyone thinks,in jan idrw reported that mk2/mwfs will incorporate WADs(wide area display) inside the cockpit

MWF-MK2 will feature Next Generation Wide Area Display (WAD) Published January 2, 2020 |

By admin SOURCE: RAUNAK KUNDE / NEWS BEAT / IDRW.ORG The latest Tender documents issued by India’s Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) has asked for Expression of Interest to Vendors who can Design, Test, and Supply 2 Medium Weight Fighter (MWF) full mission simulators, which thereby revealed the final cockpit configuration for the upcoming Medium Weight Fighter (MWF) also still called Internally as Tejas Mk2. MWF-MK2 will be equipped with a high-definition touchscreen Measuring 50x20cm (20x8in) Wide Area Display (WAD) that will allow a redundant and intelligent presentation of information across its entire length, with the capacity to receive inputs from multitask keys, the touchscreen or external interfaces. Using data fusion, it provides the pilot with the information needed and is the main source of flight and mission information in the cockpit. According to 2014 based E-Tender For, the Original plan was to used 2 Multi-Function Displays of size 6x8in and one of 5x5in for the Tejas Mk-2 program but now it seems it has been abandoned. Present LCA-Tejas MK-1 has 3 MFDs in 5x5in along with 2 Smart Standby Display Units (SSDU). Wide Area Display (WAD) is considered as a great step forward in the cockpit display technology with significant operational capability advantages to meet the demands of existing and future threats and also handle high volumes of data, supporting the pilot’s ability to select, launch and guide weapons in perfect coordination. speculation is also that MWF-Mk2 will feature side stick controller like Dassault Rafale and F-35 Lightning II which will help reduce cockpit clutter and won’t directly block critical instruments from the pilot’s view.

To begin with, unlike the decidedly crowded, fourthgeneration cockpit of the LCA Tejas, the AMCA cockpit is being developed with a panoramic active-matrix display, of the kind available on American fifth-generation aircraft. Switches, bezels and keypads stand to be replaced with touch screen interfaces and voice commands. What Dr Ghosh’s team wants is for the future IAF pilot to have a helmet-mounted display system that allows the dispensing of a head-up display (HUD) from the cockpit altogether, a revolutionary concept. The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADA), which oversees the AMCA programme, has asked private industry in the country to explore the feasibility of creating primary panoramic displays and other avionics displays that would befit a fifth-generation cockpit environment. The cockpit, however, is simply one of what is a hugely ambitious technology wishlist that Dr Ghosh and his team are pinning their hopes on for the aircraft they ultimately produce.

You said it all...quality totally depends on how the vendors produce a product,it should meet the minimal benchmark set by the customers. Indian media houses are terrible in clicking photos.... yesterday's phenomenal air display was ruined by the DD's cameraman.

One aspect of the export of MWF is that it can be sold as a complete package just like the Gripen + Erieye combo. And this package can be very useful especially for small airforces. Here is a sample configuration for the Vietnamese Air Force:

1> 36 MWF aircraft.

2> Sensor and Comms Package:
a> Uttam AESA
b> DRDO IRST
c> DRDO MAWS
d> DRDO internal EW Suite with Russian/ Israeli/ Indian jammers
e> DRDO GPS/INS/GAGAN/NAVIC/GLONASS navigation
f> DRDO Software defined radio
g> DRDO internal satcoms
h> DRDO/ BEL Data Link
I> DRDO external high power jamming pod
j> Towed Decoy (either Indian or foreign)
h> Capability to control UAVs (nice to have)

3> Weapons package:
a> Air to Air:
1> Astra IR (10-50 km) primary short range missile (alternatively R-73)
2> Astra Mk1 (50-110 km) primary BVRAAM (alternatively R-77 family)
3> Astra Mk2 (160 km) secondary BVRAAM (alternatively R-77 family)
4> Astra Mk3 SFDR (320 km) secondary BVRAAM (alternatively R-77 family)
5> RUDRAM 1 primary AWACS killer (alternatively Novator K-100)

b> Air to Ground:
1> DRDO HSLD primary dumb bomb (alternatively OFAB dumb bombs)
2> DRDO PGHSLD primary Air to Ground PGM (alternatively KAB series of PGMs)
3> RUDRAM 3 primary Air to Ground long range subsonic cruise missile. ( alternatively Russian KH series)
4> Brahmos NG primary Air to Ground supersonic cruise missile.
5> DRDO SAAW primary anti airfield weapon.
6> DRDO Garuthmaa and Garudaa primary long range glide munitions/ smart munitions

4> AWACS and ELINT/ COMINT package:
1> DRDO Netra AEW & CS with ability to control missiles and network aircraft.
2> DRDO ELINT/ COMINT sensors on a commercial jet

5> Network package:
1> AFNET equivalent built to specifications for Vietnam

6> Satellite package:
1> 2 satellites for networking between air and ground assets, information sharing, etc. 1 primary
satellite and 1 backup or load sharing.

7> Radar package:
1> Swordfish long range tracking radar.
2> Arudhra medium power radar.
3> 3D Central Acquisition radar.
4> DRDO Aerostat mounted radar.

8> SAM package:
1> Aakash NG SAM
2> DRDO-IAI LRSAM/ MRSAM
3> DRDO XRSAM
4> Network and upgradation of VPAF old SAMs with Indian networking assets.

9> UAV package:
1> 10 Rustom-2 class UAVs for armed or surveillance operations, with SANT/ Helina missiles.
2> Loyal wingman drone (nice to have)

Not all of this has to be sold at one go. We can sell the aircraft and a primary set of munitions first. The rest can follow as add ons. One major sale can help us stitch together an anti China alliance properly, and also sell our naval and land forces products as well. Reupping an old post here for everyone's perusal:

Reposting from Mk1/Mk1A Thread:

Good opportunity for us to sign tripartite agreement for F414 engines and take firm orders for LCA Mk2 for VPAF, Thai AF, Indonesian AF, Philippines AF, Myanmar AF, and stitch together an anti China alliance.

Design and most subsystems will be Indian. IP of MWF will be Indian.

For other foreign subsystems for which clearance cannot come, there is always a Russian alternative. But I think these will be very minimal.

According to available info only engine will be major foreign component in MWF.

Its Data Links and formidable avionics will be Indian. If D-29 EW suite is anything to go by, DRDOs UEWS will be an excellent piece of kit. Probably in the same category as the Rafale. Here is where i see an opportunity:

If we can sell the LCA Mk2 to the VPAF, or any other country hostile to China (like Indonesia or Philippines), then we can also sell to them the following:

1> Astra Mk1 missile (110 km range)

2> Astra Mk2 missile (160km range)

3> Astra Mk3 SFDR missile (320 km range)

4> Astra IR close quarter combat missile (40km range)

5> SANT missile (20-30km anti tank missile)

6> SAAW anti airfield PGM (120+ km)

7> Rudram 1 anti awacs missile

8> Rudram 2 air to ground missile

9> Rudram 3 air to ground missile (SCALP class missile)

10> Brahmos NG missile (300 km max range under MTCR for exports)

11> Improved Sudarshan class of LGBs with kits for 250kg, 500kg, 1000kg, 1500kg, and 2000kg munitions. Can be configured to be in the class of the Paveway 2, Paveway 3, Spice, and Hammer munitions.

12> DRDO HSLD munition which can be used with the kits from point 11 above.

13> All upcoming Indian targeting and EW pods

14> Current OFB dumb munitions modeled on Russian dumb munitions.

15> Upcoming Indian loyal wingman type drones which whill significantly increase the capability of any aircraft it is paired with.

Once these airforces are locked in with the LCA Mk2, then it automatically creates a market for Indian munition and combat electronics sales. Most countries will prefer single source vendor for end to end solution (i.e India) in order to prevent all hotch-potch and avoid paying for integration costs of other weapons. For example, the Egyptian Rafales are ditto the French ones, whereas ours have India specific mods which are costly.

If these countries, however, want foreign weapons on their aircraft, they have the following to choose:

1> ASRAAM close combat missile from Europe.

2> Meteor missile (If permitted. I last heard they will allow meteor integration with an Indian radar)

3> Python 5 close combat missile from Israel (certified already)

4> Derby medium range missile (110 km class, already certified)

5> R-73 close combat missile from Russia (already certified)

6> R-77 medium range missile from Russia (possibly certified. not sure)

7> KAB series of Russian PGMs in the 250-1500kg class. (certified)

8> OFAB dumb russian munitions (certified)

9> Paveway 2 LGB kit (certified)

10> Griffin LGB kit (certified)

11> Kh-XX series of A2G and anti ship missiles (certified)

12> Spice kit

13> Hammer kit

All these are a TREMENDOUS list of options!! No other aircraft will give this kind of versatility as far as weapon systems are concerned!

Tejas Mk2 will be the only aircraft in the world which can easily integrate Indian, Russian, Israeli, and Western armaments. No other aircraft in the world will offer this diversity.

LCA Mk2 will also offer variety of targeting pods too

1> Upcoming Indian targeting pods

2> Israeli Litening (already integrated and most preferred)

3> French Talios

4> US Sniper pod (good possibility if sold to ME countries)

Also on offer will be missions training systems, pilot training, etc. Not to mention that any country who buys the LCA Mk2 will increase our strategic footprint there. The sale of MWF will pave the way to sell our under development AWACS aircraft too. And other electronics like radars and data links.

Good opportunity for us to make alliances and modernize some air forces at affordable prices. Just imagine a string of nations hostile to the Chinese and armed with a combination of MWFs, ORCAs, and a range of desi munitions. I think we should aggressively pursue this.

Out of thin air....
Maybe it's out of thin air. However if there is some truth to it then it may mean:
1. Some single engine Fs. Why else would US influence France, Israel?
2. Given 1 above, TEDBF program would get definite support from IAF(ORCA).
3. AMCA would be sped up to late 20s rather than mid 30s.
* MWF should not be abandoned. Tejas along with MWF would be the major export earners for India. If there are orders, creating assembly lines won't be a problem n Pvt sector would be more than happy to ramp up their outputs too.

Correct. GoI should take the lead and form anti China alliance and export MWF to these nations en masse. Opens door to export other platforms as well (Naval platforms, space assets, etc). With a line of credit to these countries, we can modernise their air forces very quickly. In return we can ask for favourable trade deals, and have influence in their strategic sectors. Primary focus should be east and south east Asia.

Tejas Mk2 is Scheduled for first flight in 2023

Despite several months of Lockdown due to the Chinese Virus situation in the country, the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) which is the nodal design agency for the Tejas Mk2 program is confident that the first rollout of the Tejas Mk2 LSP-1 will happen in June 2022 and it will conclude its first flight by Early 2023. The first Metal cutting for the first aircraft is scheduled for February 2021, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) already has begun procurement of tooling and assembly jigs for the same and the final design freeze will happen in the next few weeks. ADE and HAL are planning to complete flight testing and Developmental trials by 2028 so that aircraft enters into full-scale production by then. Unlike the Tejas Mk1 program, the Tejas MK2 program will be build using technologies and components which are already developed, and nothing much needs to be developed which can delay the program due to which Schedule has remained the same. Tejas Mk2 will feature Side Stick Controller, Next Generation Wide Area Display (WAD) to boost situational awareness, accuracy, safety. Electronic warfare suite (EW suite) onboard and On-board Oxygen (OBOX) generating system which is already developed and tested. HAL is also developing Two Full Mission Simulator (FMS) for the program so that Pilots can practice and fly it even before the first Mk2 LSP-1 is ready for its first flight. ADE already has received dozen F-414 engines from GE, a New powerful digital flight control computer (DFCC) already has been developed which will also be used for the Tejas Mk1A program. Most of the Major system like Line Replacement Unit (LRU) and Avionics is already developed and what is now required is to put them in one place and that will happen when the assembly of the first aircraft begins from mid of 2022 onwards. LSP-1 Tejas Mk2 will be an Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) standard built and in by 2026 first Final Operational Clearance (IOC) standard built LSP-3 will be ready for further flight testing so that by 2028 it is ready to enter production. 17.5 ton Tejas Mark II will be powered by a heavier GE 414 engine and will be equipped with state-of-the-art AESA radar with the indigenously developed Weapons systems like RudraM, BrahMos-NG, Astra Mk1, Mk1A, Mk2 BVRAAM, SAAW, etc. Tejas Mk2 will share 80% of its Avionics, Radar, and other major systems with the Navy’s TEDBF program also. Tejas Mk2 program was sanctioned in 2009 but the majority of the systems required for the aircraft were developed first even though aircraft moved from 15-tonne aircraft to 17.5-tonne aircraft in the last 5 years in the design stage itself due to growing confidence due to the Tejas Mk1 program.

That’s why I say MMRCA is most likely to get cancelled because if Tejas MK2 takes first flight by 2023 then why do we even need Aircrafts like F16 or Gripen, Tejas Mk2 will be far better

I hope mmrca is,cancelled and mark 2 tejas mwf becomes,reality. by 2030.

I suspect delays,it's complex and unforseen problems, and typical.indian red tape followed by funding issues will delay ioc and foc to 2032 easily .

in which case I feel.iaf will ask for emergency second batch purchase of Rafale in 2026 delivery by 2030 x 40 planes,
