I said hold your horses, wait until AeroIndia....as Mk-2 progresses there will be more & more hit jobs.
Hit job by the ones making them...might as well close the project and sell the land data and machinery fire the workers and use the money to buy some phoren maal.
IAF chief was right all along we are the clowns.

Source incase anyone was wondering.
Its not a hit job it's an interview.
:hmm: looks like she just took it from this article , is this even legit ? , article from last year updated today i guess.

Speaking about the deliveries of LCA-Mk1A, he said that 83 have been contracted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the trials are on track and the first delivery would be done by February 2024 while the bigger and more capable LCA-Mk2 is expected to take first flight by 2026-27.

As per schedule, three LCA-Mk1A should be delivered in the first year and 16 aircraft per year after that in five years.

Early September, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) give sanction for the development of the LCA-Mk2, a bigger and more capable fighter than the present one. “We will be able to deliver the first prototype in 2025-26 and have the first flight in 2026-27,” Mr. Ananthakrishnan added.

Funny thing is this used to be AMCA's timeline.
Damn this is just sad they can take all the time they want but overpromising and under delivering is just...
If one was told Mk2 will take ff in 2030 there would be criticism like world would be flying 6th gen and we would be working on a 4.5 gen but it would be better than this.
When all the others are decreasing the timeline for aircrafts(KAI,TAI).
The increase of 3 years is just plain sad.

The news implies some big change in requirements have been pressed on by IAF for Mk2. Now it makes sense why the IAF chief is pushing for MRFA cos, if signed this year, the first ac would arrive by 2026.

And if not for MRCA, no new squadrons would be added other than 4 mk1A squadrons

Why not order more LCA MK1 as a stop gap? There is some serious planning and forecasting issue in the forces and some heads need to roll.

Navy - EMALs vs Vikrant follow on saga.
AF - Tejas / AMCA va MRFA tomfoolery.
IA - the less said the better.

Not only is our dependence increasing but also logistical / maintenance challenges with all these khichdi.

:hmm: pretty sure only the roll out date has been pushed forward , 2024 -> 2025

last date they gave for first flight date was 2026 which remains unchanged.

anyways lets hope it isnt changed any further

Ff was supposed to be 1 year from rollout and roll out was supposed to happen within 1-1.5 years after ccs clearance so late this year to early next year..god knows now what happened

Yes right now mrfa is the only way to give us some stability
We can't wait for mk2 as it seems it's going through a tough time but still it will be procured
But right now mrfa seems to be the only solution
GOI should finish it sooner as things have already left our hands
6 Sq of Rafale can give us some breathing space nothing else
