It will match Gripen C/D in payload. It will be near Gripen in range but it will not be able to supercruise because of aerodynamic issues and inlet design issues. Both are planned to be addressed in Mk1A to a large extent. I am looking forward to a weight reduction of atleast 500 kg in Mk1A.
Is a refined intlet for Mk1A confirmed? Will Mk1A have higher top speed then?

Wouldn't this require them modifying a PV (the airframes they are using to test pretty much all MK1A updates)?

This is a pretty big change so they can't go straight into production without having real world data which requires a test aircraft

Still unclear as to whether this upgraded UTTAM will be on MK.2 or if it will be the mk.2 version of Uttam with GaN. Uttam Mk.2 might be for LCA MK1A
It's not a big upgrade,only the front end is changed,Trm remains the same so as the arrangement..it is based on GaA,can be fitted easily on Tejas Mk1A as the size and breadth remains the same..

How? Lighter landing gear? More composites?
He is looking forward doesn't mean drdo is looking forward , and composite are not meant for weight reduction but to provide more specific strength as compared to metal sheet , it's composite is already one of highest .

The biggest update for now is new uttam setup with iff probe in radar only

That's my point, the Uttam Mk2 might just be the production variant for MK1A, LCA MK.2 will get the next gen Uttam with GaN

So how we are supposed to know the status of project ? Any official confirmation from HAL. ?
