bad news going to retire on sept 2021 ,the first thing iaf chief shud have the tenure of at least 4 years ,keeping in mind the procurement process of iaf ,every 3 years(max) or age 62 whichever is earlier ,a new chief takes over the office, this rule contributes a lot of hassle in ongoing procurement processes ,as a chief changes so is the mindset

Yes, it would have been good to have current air chief marshal continue for some more time, but his path to self reliance for Air Force has already taken a concrete shape and will not be possible for anyone else to take an U turn at this point of time with the present government backing it fully.

ej200 would have been best choice for tejas, it's far better non-afterburning thrust of 62kN and lower weight compared to ge414

The problem with EJ200 is multiple IP/ownership. From wiki-

While it is good to not keep all your strategic eggs in one basket- this is a case of not letting four fickle minded European countries leverage to squeeze our strategic balls. You can't keep everyone happy all the time.

Institutions have an inertia of their own once the government sets the agenda, and the institution always outlasts & outshines any individual. There is no way Chotu Sir can back the Tejas and subsequent spin-offs if the strategic brain of the IAF as a whole is not aligned in that direction. So it is good to praise ACM Bhadauria, but do trust the IAF to deliver the goods also.
