Because manufacturing of mig21 stopped in 1985 ; it's airframes are obsolete , it's engine don't have enough power and it can not carry bigger radars and modern avonics .
On the other hand F16 is still under production and they have changed everything , from design , engines , radars avonics everything is changed .

Even back in '80s Mig-21 was to F-16 what Mig-29 (entering obsolescence) is to F-22 (still the leading operational 5th gen fighter for atleast another decade).

But F16 are the least capable aircraft in USAF inventory it’s their last line of defense our media projects F16 like it some 5th generation aircraft even better than F35 or F22

Coming of Tejas MK1A if negotiations for F16 starts today it will take at least 5 years before 1st F16 to arrive in India while Tejas Mk1A will start coming from 2022 and Tejas MK1A is expected to have RCS of 0.5 meter square and if it uses UTTAM AESA Radars in Later batches it will also integrate meteor missiles which we are getting with Rafales

Yes proposed specifications of MWF are far and way better than those oN F16 even the Tejas Mk1A has superior specifications and with time MWF will match the specifications of Gripen E with upgrades even if it turns out to be inferior to Gripen E in its initial batches

You can not provide any reliable information about RCS , these types of data are extremely confidential and countries exaggerate capabilities of their aircrafts .


most of the stealth is achieved by shape , do you think Grippen with all these weapons and fuel tanks wouldn't reflect radar waves ?
