Mk1 weapon load , Range is just a little less than F16. F16 is 2000kg heavy. Mk 2 with more space for additional requiremnts will be heavier. With new engine thrust is just a little bit less than F16. Mk 2 may give competition to F16 so definitely MCA.

What will be powering this Tejas MKII GE F414 or Safranised Kaveri Engine ?

@Bhoot Pishach MMRCA-2 now purely depends on Modi coming back to power . If BJP comes back with majority then i think MMRCA-2 will be more Rafales nothing else . If not then god knows what will come out of this round .

The future inventory of IAF should be

@Bhoot Pishach MMRCA-2 now purely depends on Modi coming back to power . If BJP comes back with majority then i think MMRCA-2 will be more Rafales nothing else . If not then god knows what will come out of this round .

Yep. It's better to get more Rafales than introduce another variant in the mix else it'll just become a logistical nightmare!

Mk2 will be powered by F414.

Yes, MMRCA-2 is just hogwash. No other 4.5 gen jet can be better then Rafale.

My sincere wishes are Rafale to be last FOREIGN fighter India purchases. THE END FOREVER TO FOREIGN MAAL.

Tejas MK-2 will be in the leagues of Gripen-NG, F-16 block 70. No need for further EXPENSIVE IMPORTS.

main take away the canards, gun mount on the upper part, not in lower part, speed brake not present in the rear fuselage

Estimated length= 6.1m (F) + 4.5m (C) + 3.3m (R) = 13.9m. Mk1 is 13.2m.

So MK2 is officially 0.7m longer than Mk1/Mk1A
Anyone else curious about 'stub wing'??

MK2 with canards completely rules out chances of Gripen from MMRCA round-2. F-16 is very old, IAF won't buy Mig35, Typhoon is expensive, F-18 doesn't suit IAF reuirement & hence proved Rafale is once wins the round-2 of the contract.

Interesting to see ADA & HAL are working together for MK2, hope they make MK2 a robust platform to manufacture it easily unlike MK1.
