HAL to get Tejas key parts from private players

NEW DELHI: State-owned defence manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd is looking to significantly increase the involvement of private companies in manufacturing Tejas combat jets even as readies for an additional order for about 200 units of the latest Tejas model, government officials said. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has already roped in private players including L&T to make key components for 123 Tejas Mark 1 and 1A light combat aircraft (LCAs) that it is building for Indian Air Force(IAF).

In the long run, HAL plans to play the role of a system integrator with private firms doing most of the manufacturing, the sources said.

With the private sector participation, HAL’s per year production capacity of Tejas is expected to scale up to 24, officials said. Out of 123 combat jets the company is making for IAF, 40 are Mark 1 version and the remaining 83 are Mark 1A version. In the case of the 83 Tejas Mark 1A jets, HAL intends to make use of L&T’s capabilities for making wings of the aircraft, while Dynamatic Technologies Ltd is expected to make the front fuselage, or main body, VEM Technologies the centre fuselage and Alpha Doca would make the rear fuselage, officials said. “We have placed orders (for the 83 Tejas) with these firms, who will make the parts and if they are successful the parts will be integrated,” one of the sources said.

HAL will work with the private sector to make components for the 40 Mark 1jets as well. “This will ensure that the private sector becomes tier 1 suppliers and can ramp up their supply chain,” the person said. HAL is also looking at bringing the private sector to work on Tejas Mark 2 version. “This will be a game changer for the private sector. In this, HAL is looking at being a systems integrator, while the private firms will be the manufacturers. This will increase production,” one of the sources said.

IAF wants to induct 201 Mark 2 Tejas jets, which will have additional capabilities such as better range than the Mark 1and 1A. “The Mark 2 will have qualities like the Gripen and Mirage fighters and will be called Medium Combat Aircraft instead of LCA,” one of the officials said. The order for Mark 2 will be placed once HAL understands what all capabilities IAF wants in the aircraft.

I would be stupid to delay Mk-1A waiting for Uttam to qualify. And it would be bigger stupidity to continue to mount MK-1A beyond 40 fighters with anything other than Uttam.

Uttam should qualify in next 2 years should be fully ready in 1 more after that. So order Israeli/French AESA MMR for first 40 MK-1As only. Next 43 should come up with Uttam only. Also when MK-1 is upgraded to MK-1A Uttam should be installed on these.

Because those are the same ADA has officially planned for Tejas in different mission configs and were part of the flight testing for IOC and FOC. They even tested Tejas in the same config at Leh, to prove that it could be used in that config at that location if the need arise.
There is also something called knowledge, that's why informing yourself before claiming baseless things like Rahul does is important, because the truth includes both good and bad things and not just the things you would like to hear or want to imagine.
Because my name was mentioned (which I missed earlier).

Since getting it from elaboration is beyond your comprehension abilities, so take it the most suitable way, a layman's way. Again!

Cmdr Balaji. Then Chief at ADA speaking on Tejas

1) Did he mention Swing Role capability for Tejas?
Ans: Yes at 06:14

2) Did he also mention A2G weapons on inner-boards in swing role configuration?
Ans: Yes at 06:23

3) Did he practically define 'Swing-Role'?
Ans: Yes Between 06:06 to 07:35

Need I mention how you had defined what a Swing Role is? Link to your Lahori Logic

So now, either Cmdr. Balaji also does not have any knowledge and claiming baseless things(as you would like to call it) or you are a degenerative layman.

When Tejas falls in the same category as mirage 2000(a light to medium weight fighter) then why do we designate it as LCA???

That’s far too ambitious, where didn’t this hope come from bro? HAL never promised to deliver so many this month, they said 3 in March and that has been achieved.

I.............................................
now hey pakis...show us ur junk fighter. bahut sunahay...jf.17 ke.baremain ..jf.17 is better than f16 ...
come on pakis
Don't insult 4.5 gen Tejas comparing it with a 3rd gen all metal no full FBW JF-17 which is not even a Chinese design let alone Paki. A Russian design which Pakis can't even produce from raw materials till this date. They get sections from Chinese which they simply couple and equip. Their contribution in FC-1 is not even close to our's in Gnat/Ajeet. Comparing it with Tejas is an insult.

JF-17 has all-metal airframe. It will shine like a beacon on Tejas's 2032. Long it continues as this there is no chance it can stand any chance against Tejas in BVR.

In close combat, it does not even have an HMDS. That >18 km range PL-5 a copy of K-13 of 1960 vintage does not stand a chance against +25 Km range ASRAAM that Tejas is getting in addition to R-73 E with <20 km range. Shooting first is killing first.

In a gun to gun fight. Tejas has better instantaneous turn rate also better climb rate, JF-17 might be having better-sustained turn rate. So both will fight at their own strength. However thanks to carefree manoeuvring capability provided by FCS, a Tejas can manoeuvre harder even at the edge of sustained flight without worrying about a departure (meaning getting into a spin or a stall). In contrast, JF-17 does not even have an all aspect FBW.

So Technically Tejas MK-1 out guns JF-17 of both Block 1 & 2. That's plain maths, not jingoism.

Su30 is also all metal frame. So are F16. F15, MiG29 etc. I would not pin point JF17 for that.

Also, the weapons store of BVR missile is not related to the plane. There is no reason to not use AIM 120C in JF17.

How do you know that JF17 FBW is poor?
