It's really golden words from a vishnu. Tejas is one of the finest fighter jet in the world. Armed with beyond visual range missile derby and advance aesa radar it will be deadliest fighter in coming years. We can also make stealth version of tejas.

What is the most important part in a plane is avionics and fly by wire. Other things like radar, BVR etc can be imported too. It is till better than importing the entire plane itself.

That being said, I don't intend to say that BVR or AESA should be imported. I am all for 100% indigenisation. I only want to say that comparison should be done for only corresponding alternatives.

For exanple, When F16 is compared, comparing BVR of Tejas and F16 is not an indication that F16 is to be imported but at most that USA BVR should be imported for use in Tejas.

@TPFscopes it is completed Kaveri and not Safranised Kaveri. M88 core is not used (as that will be similar to Al31 in Su30) but it is flat rated engine fine tuned by Safran for the last mile problems as we didn't have test facilities and needed more time.

I am not sure if by 2019 the engine can receive certification. I have heard of being displayed in 2019, but I am pretty sure extensive trials and integration has to be completed

Both options are still available on the table (with and without M88 core). So, you need to wait for results rather than to cook up yourself.

I used the word "Safranized" for safran's assistance (with/without M88 core). Anyways, I believe in the quote "something is always better than nothing".

All Test prototypes of Safranized Kaveri are almost assembled and you may see aerial tests in early next year.

@TPFscopes are you saying that Kaveri engine will be first tested in another twin engine fighter in 2018 and then tested on single engine Tejas in 2019? Also, is the air inlets of Tejas capable of accommodating Kaveri engine's air inflow?

I guess Tejas inlets were designed for Kaveri engine, also Kaveri is a very different engine from GEF404

Tejas aircraft capability to be enhanced

In the face of the Air Force raising questions about the capability of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, the government is now aiming to install capability enhancements and speed up the rate of production.

“The production of Tejas Mk-1A will begin in 2019. Most of the 43 improvements have already been made and the tender process to install an Advanced Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar and Self-Protection Jammer is under way. A refuelling probe would also be added to increase range,” a source said.

While the design cannot be changed and endurance improved as it is powered by the GE-404 engine, the enhancements will increase the capability of the aircraft, the source said. The IAF had told the government that Tejas did not meet its requirements. IAF was in the process of issuing a tender for the procurement of 100 jets through the Strategic partnership mode, for which the contenders were Lockheed F-16 and SAAB Gripen. Lockheed had tied up with Tata group and SAAB with the Adani group to build them locally if selected.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was undertaking the enhancements and was in the process of setting up another assembly line at a cost of ₹130 crore to increase production rate from the present eight to 16. The second line would be ready by 2019 when Mk-1A began production, the source stated.

GE-F404-IN20 was the fall back plan in case Kaveri didn't materialize. It was planned taking in count the design spec of Kaveri. Inlet of Tejas could accommodate F404 along with F414.

Air flow of Kaveri is 78kg/sec
Air flow of GE-F404-IN20 is 70kg/sec
Air flow of GE-F414-INS6 is 77kg/sec

‘Major boost’ to the LCA Tejas program & ‘reposes faith’, says HAL as IAF Southern Command chief Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria takes a 30-minute solo sortie today.

Livefist was the same to cook the story about LCA, don't how their "internal source" get to know when IAF Officials are restricted to talk to these journos.

We must not lose our indigenous aviation industry we must do what ever it takes. Even if it means bringing private industries.
I shall support more of New Private like Dynamatics etc rather than the old established "Baniya Houses" they are more interested in License Manufacturing the new ones are the real Innovators. Eg MKU, TONBO, Idea Forge. They shall bring the true Industrial Potential out of this country's population.

Capital intensive activity can't be done by these startup. Startups can do innovations in existing technologies but not make new research or build big items.
