Its a statement at parliament not my own view or calculation ..

These 123 LCA are scheduled to be delivered by 2023-24. While MIGs 21/23/27 will have to be retired by 2022.

While I share your optimism. The timelines simply don't match.

If we go by this chart we have total 315 mig21/27. LCA even if approved more can't produce that many numbers by 2030 .

So LCA will cover 123 by 2023-24.
40 more sukhoi + 36 rafale by 2021.
===199.
We need 100 more planes by 2025 just to keep the strength what it is today. Forget ramping up.

I guess another single engine will come after all. The only other possibility is to ramp up LCA production from16 pee year in 2018-19 onwrds to 32 per year. While doubling the order units. What are the chances.

Remember reading that we have 210+ Su-30 MKI aircraft in service and there are, as per info available on this forum, about 4 Tejas fighters with the Flying Daggers.

I think you are talking about PRODUCTION LINE.

Su-30MKI is still have pending orders till 2020 and after that it will be modified to churn out FGFA

LCA's production can be ramped up by 50% (24/year) without adding ANY physical infrastructure by HAL.

IF IAF placed more orders for LCA than 123 units HAL would respond accordinly but they have set the 16/year target for 123 units so the line is open long enough for the MK.2 to be readied.


The only thing holding HAL back from churning out more LCAs is pitiful orders from IAF.

@lcafanboy bhai read what @abingdonboy posted. HAL is waiting for more orders. If required, it could ramp up LCA production to 4 per month as well. It can do 2 per month without adding any more infrastructure.

Its all fine. IAF should not order any more LCA Mk1As. They should wait for LCA Mk-2.

Now that I think about it, maybe IAF started all this Single-Engine tender drama because it wanted a better aircraft than Mk1A. Maybe they started the tender early as a failsafe in case HAL fails to deliver on LCA Mk2 promise. Maybe that is why they have deferred decision on the single-engine fighter tender till 2019. In 2019, once progress on Mk2 becomes clearer, the IAF will simply cancel the single-engine tender and place a firm order of more LCA Mk 2.
