The EW suite for Tejas is apparently still a work in progress. HAL's tender for EW systems for Tejas Mk.1A seems to be all imported. The existing EW suite does not include MAWS (I contacted Sengupta on that very point). It is possible that the tender includes MAWS but the full pdf is no longer available at the HAL website.

it seems unlikely that all EW systems will be imported bcoz the it is in advanced stage of development at DARE lab.
hopefully, it'll pass all its trial at user end.

LCA tejas is not an individual effort. It is a collective effort of INDIA
Spot on! And this is what the idiots criticising the LCA project fail to appreciate, before the LCA almost none of the above institutions/labs/centres existed. All have had to be built from the ground up- an entire industry.

This is what makes the threat of buying a foreign SE jet and killing off the LCA project all the more sinister, it will not just be a single project that is killed but an entire industry in India. Screwdriver technology from the US does not compensate for this, India has put in all the hard work to get to this point, no point in throwing it all away for a few shiny toys from abroad.

Wonderful news. Now if only they can deliver mk1a on schedule without more delays.
Thing is, I have a bad feeling that the Uttam integration is going to push back the Mk.1A by at least 3-4 years.

I would much rather an off the shelf solution for at least the first tranche of Mk.1As until the uttam is fully tested and proven.

There is also news that HAL is working with DARE to fulfil the EW needs of the MK.1A so there very well may not be any global RFP for the AESA radar or EW systems.

They might have figured the same . But maybe Uttam is more ready than we know and maybe off the shelf solution (elta) might not be the proper fix .

These things are bloody complex.

guys, have a look into it?

In the next 2-3 years we could see a LCA MK.1A with Uttam+Kaveri+DARE EW suite- let all those fools try and paint the LCA project as a failure then :D :D :D

All of the hard work from the scientists, pilots and engineers is going to pay off in a big way, let us not allow them to fall at the last hurdle, let us not allow the Govt to kill off the LCA with the needless single engine jet buy.

Seriously, what will be the need for the Gripen or F-16 after this? If the IAF wants a SE jet with higher endurance/payload then the Mk.2 can be fully developed and it will have an Indian AESA and engine from day one.

Add trust vectors and additional stealth features, we have a world beater fighter jet !

As per best of my knowledge, MK1A will be more modular than Mk1 as per IAF requirement.
engine might be decided after the development completion but UTTAM+EW can be tested, because they already know about EL/M 2052 , now they are only trying EW as a new hardware.

Thrust vectoring can be explored once India's baby (Kaveri) is fully matured.

As for stealth I don't think it is required for the LCA whose RCS is already tiny thansk to its compact size and extensive use of composite materials.

IMHO, MK1-A should have been moved ahead with Elta2052 AESA.

UTTAM would definitely delay it. You also need to integrate all Missiles again.

A order of additional MK1 with Uttam would've been nice btw.. not this one.

What MP did is gradually being undone.

For all those having doubts about the MK.2, it is very much a reality:

ASMET is usally a test of the vibrations in the relevent aircraft mounts where the engine is cycled thousands of times exposing it to hundreds of simulated missions. It's quite an advanced test to be running and pretty much proves the MK.2 is a certainty.

+1
I think that the DARIN III program revolves around the EL/M 2052 and HAL would be well versed in integrating it to the Tejas without surprises popping up.
But I suspect the IAF wants the Astra and other desi weapons on it's frontline light fighter and are willing to hedge the risk of delay with more FOC Tejas orders(If the production does increase to projected numbers).

On the other hand I see this as the CABS AEWCS program bearing fruit and the IAF which already operates the Netra, has very high confidence in this going on smoothly.
