On a side discussion, how come Tejas is never equipped with wing-tip AAMs? Wing-tips would have been an extra hard points.
Missiles or ECM Pods or chaff dispenser..but this is a good suggestion...in Pak-Fa they are using L-band radars for detection in wingtips... don't know if they can work with wingtip missiles

The Test Pilot closely examines the aircraft before embarking for one of the most Crucial FOC Tasks where the Derby Missile in RADAR guided mode was fired from LCA Tejas LSP-4. The missile achieved a direct hit during the trial conducted at Kalaikunda, West Bengal in May

Im sorry but What does this mean
LCA's production is ramping up. HAL almost met their year one target (6 SPs) and only fell short by a matter of weeks.

Future deliveries won't encounter this issue as SP-5 is the first LCA being made in the 2nd production line (converted Kiran hanger), HAL will meet their future targets quite comfortably with all things being equal.

I think in addition to the changes recommended by IAF, HAL Tejas Mk-1A "if" incorporates the following features or changes would take it to a different level making the Mk2 version redundant:

1) Reduced weight (already recommended by IAF)
2) Supersonic drop tanks instead of regular ones (improves range and combat radius and already being used in Mirage-2000H)
3) Installation of LEVECONs, atleast manually operated for improved lift during take off and landing operations.
4) Raised canopy like LCA-Naval version hence, adhering to Whitcomb's design criteria which renders the design more aerodynamic (already there in naval version).
5) Multiple ejection racks (MERs).
6) MERs around drop tank hard points further increasing the number of hard points.
7) Wing-tip hard points.

By the end of this FY around 12-14 units should be with 45 SQN and production for the MK.1 will stabilise around the 8-10 units/year mark until around 2019-20 when the Mk.1A will enter production at a rate of 16/year.

Hopefully the IAF/GoI commits to more LCA by 2021 so HAL can increase their production capacity to 20-24/year as their facilities will allow (without any additional phycisal infrastructure being required). The biggest handicap going foreward will be the lack of commited orders.

Bad reporting by Indian media ??

On the naval variant of Tejas–Mark II (light combat aircraft), Dr. Christopher said the prototype was ready and had fullfilled the parameters of ski-jump on board aircraft carriers. But the Navy had been insisting on twin engines and they were working on the power of the engines. “We are also looking for strategic partners and the partner may be a foreign firm that would provide back-end support,” he said.
