Hope weapons trials are successful.

The latest on the front of indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft, TEJAS is very heartening. LCA TEJAS, which after its astonishing and eye opening aerobatic performance at the Bahrain International Airshow 2016 in February is now touted for several critical inert bomb tests.
IDN has learnt from highly placed sources that two TEJAS jets have been dispatched to Jamnagar for the preparation of Tandem bombing release tests. During the same exercise, TEJAS will also carry out the all important Griffin Laser Guided Bomb drop tests.

What will seem ordinary and routine to the pilot will actually be a “monumental achievement” for the much delayed Light Combat Aircraft program. A modern, jet-powered combat aircraft is nothing if it cannot put weapons on a target, and these two varied weapons release tests will be a moment of truth for the fighter, which until now only released weapons in development and operational testing.

It is worthy to note that TEJAS has participated in Hot Weather, Cold Weather, Iron Fist, Weapon Trials comprising of Bomb releases in CCRP/CCIP, R73E missile launching in MMR/HMDS Guided Mode, Stick bombing and separation trials of emergency Jettison of multiple stores/Drop tank conducted at various location in India
TEJAS had earlier successfully test fired the BVRAAM Derby missile. While the ground integration of fifth generation Air-to-Air Close Combat Missile, Python 5 is over; its aerial trials is slated to be completed very soon.
All the aforementioned form a part of the FOC consent.
India is eyeing export market for light combat aircraft, TEJAS has been much awaited by the IAF to replace its dwindling fighter squadrons and obsolete fighter fleet.

^^ Seems legit. Here is the recent update from Tejas FB page that reaffirms whats mentioned in the post quoted.

From the gist of it, it seems weapon trials will happen today.

Tejas SP-3 ready for maiden flight

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is warming up to conduct the first flight of the third series production variant (SP-3) of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, soon. The EGR (engine ground run) has been completed and now the aircraft is being prepared for LSTT (low-speed taxi trials).“Then the HSTT (high-speed taxi trials) leading to the first flight,” says an official. HAL hopes to conduct the SP-3 first flight within a week, subject to favourable weather conditions and zero snags. Air Commodore K A Muthanna (Retd) is set to fly SP-3. However, the dream of Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha to have four Tejas’ flying over Hindon Air Force base, during Air Force Day (October 8), might not happen this year. “Both SP-1 and SP-2 are sure to fly with one more from the flightline on the static display,” says an official. SP-3 is unlikely to make it to Hindon this time, though HAL officials are making efforts to position it on the static display arena. The SP-3 comes with more value additions with around 340 pipelines and 50 panels now achieving ICY or interchangeability standards. (ICY ensures quick replacement of a component without any design changes affecting operational performance.) “In the next aircraft, around 100 panels and 700-plus pipelines will be in the ICY standards,” says an official. HAL conducted the first flight of SP-1 on September 1, 2014 while the SP-2 had its maiden sorties on March 23, 2016. On July 1, this year, the IAF formally inducted Tejas (No 45 Flying Daggers Sqn) with two aircraft and Group Captain Madhav Rangachari as its Commanding Officer. “The IAF is happy with the performance of both the aircraft and we are delighted with the feedback we received recently from the Squadron,” says HAL Chairman T Suvarna Raju. The inducted platforms have both completed around 30 flights as this report goes live. As reported by Mathrubhumi earlier, Raju has given a freehand to the young LCA Division to launch innovative ideas so that the IAF gets the remaining aircraft (18 numbers) as per the plan. “The results are showing with our team now working on two shifts even on Sundays,” says an insider. HAL hopes to take the Tejas deliver tally to six aircraft (SP-1 & SP-2 included) by end of March 2017. Components up to SP-9 are already in different stages of assembly, coupling and equipping on various jigs at the LCA Division.

1. The High Speed Taxi Trial of SP3 was done yesterday(26th)
2. First flight was supposed to happen today, but some 'clearance' was not given, so apparently it didn't happen.
3. Production has picked up speed.
4. IAF has apparently developed a fan base for the bird. In one of the recent reports, they ostensibly said to the effect that the maintainability is not as worse as they thought. The pilots seems to love it, and the airmen are also happy about it.
5. Two SPs were taken to Hindan for the IAF Day. Not much involvement from ADA. Two LSPs are doing weapons trials somewhere in the deserts.
6. The IFR probe integration is almost complete. So is the gun integration.

Why don't HAL or ADA increase tejas length to 15 to 15.5 meters,so we can add more fuel means more range

According to Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) sources, the first flight lasted for 15 minutes.

“It took off around 8.40 am in the morning. The pilot wanted to make use of the favourable early morning weather and decided to go for it (flight) after the aircraft was cleared by various agencies. The flight lasted about 15 minutes,” an official said.

As reported byMathrubhumiearlier, the flight was on expected lines following the completion of engine ground run, low\high speed taxi trials.

HAL is racing against the time to see whether it can push SP-3 for the 84th Air Force Day Parade at Hindon Air Force Station on October 8.

It is now certain that SP-1 and SP-2 will be flying at AFS Hindon. HAL is hoping against hope to prepare SP-3 for couple of additional flights in the next two to three days.

“The painting normally takes time and we are not sure if they (HAL) will be in a position to ready the aircraft soon. Our teams from different stations have already landed here (Hindon) ahead of the parade. We have SOPs to follow and then there is a FDR (full dress rehearsal) as well,” says an IAF official.

The first flight of SP-1 was on September 1, 2014 while the SP-2 had its maiden sortie on March 23, 2016. HAL says each aircraft in the SP block will be as per their new rate of production mandate.

Yes that's also a good idea but cft affect the kinematic performance of the aircraft
It has been well established that CFTs introduce negligible drag from F-16 and other related cases. Iam curious on how the kinematic performance of the aircraft is affected?

For that purpose we have sukhois rafales and migs.
Amca will be the aircraft which you are talking about
Then why did mig-21 are still there in service?
We don't want out sukhoi to take all the beating.. We need a 4++ generation plane .

Any news at what interval are they planning to roll out remaining three SP.
SP-3 will be on static Display that makes it 3 delivered to IAF?

SP-4 SP-5 SP-6 by March are they not targeting some thing which only they can make impossible??

Mig-21 are the working horse of IAF . We cannot send Su each time someone invades our aerospace.+
they have role of interceptor and not of air superiority like SU.

Personally i do not get the term 4++ gen .

KH-2017 landing back after a low level test sortie during hot weather trials in the mid afternoon where the ambient temperature was close to 47 Deg C. Apart from the machine, the personnel deputed for the work had to undergo severe hardship. The peeling of the paint and foil on the wing surface is a testimony to the fact that Tejas has undergone the harshest climatic tests and have performed well at the same time.
