Has Tejas been tested with Supersonic fuel tanks yet? If not when is it planned?

India Rejects SAAB's Offer to Develop Tejas MK1A Aircraft

12.08.2016(updated 21:45 12.08.2016)

Swedish defense firm SAAB had offered to set up a production unit in India to collaborate with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the co-development of the Tejas MK1A fighter aircraft

New Delhi (Sputnik) — SAAB's desperate attempt to collaborate with Indian aeronautics firm in the co-development of India's indigenously manufactured fighter aircraft Tejas MK1A has failed to find support in the Indian government.

Manohar Parrikar, India's Minister of Defense, said, «There is no collaboration envisaged with any European Aircraft Manufacturer for development of the Tejas Mark 1A."

Indian Air Force Chief to Visit SAAB Production Facility in Sweden
Last month, SAAB's India head and chairman Jan Widerström said that the company was in talks with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) to develop the Tejas MK1A. SAAB offered to set up a production line in India under 'Make in India' scheme and to supply the latest Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar to HAL for Tejas MK1A.

However, the Indian government is not very keen to take this proposal forward as its own Defence Research Development Organisation is locally developing AESA at a cost of $67 million dollars. This project was approved by the government in January 2012 and is likely to be completed by May 2019, with a delay of 3 years.

The Tejas MK1A is a 4.5 generation aircraft which, the government says, will not lead to the development of indigenous fifth generation aircraft. Manohar Parrikar said in Parliament, "There is a separate program between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) from Indian side and M/s Rosboronexport from the Russian side for Design and Development (D&D) of the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA)."

India formed its first Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) — Tejas squadron on 1st July, 2016 with two LCA Initial Operational Configuration (IOC) Series Production Aircraft. A further 18 IOC configured aircraft are planned for induction by 2018-19. This will be followed by 20 more aircraft in the Final Operation Configuration (FOC) standard, which are planned for induction from year 2019.

In order to complete the remaining flight test tasks, Tejas in the coming days will undergo several outstation trials at various air force stations in the coming days.

The effort by the designers, the aircraft preparation team from all forum, the program management team and Air Force coordinating team will ensure all the objectives are met.

the LCA fb page is doing a GREAT job of explaining the enormity of the challenge faced by the design and test team which goes a long way to address those ignorant fools endlessly demeaning the fighter/project. They also more than make the case for rejecting any other single engined fighter that would not add 1/100th of the capacity the LCA project will eventually add to India's MIC and would undo all of this valuble work being undertaken by the LCA team.

If one looks at the naval aviation pioneers like USA and other countries, the experience and knowledge acquired by these countries are over decades probably closer to a century of naval flight testing have been achieved with numerous aircrafts. Whereas, a nation like us are trying to stand with similar achievement with ONE prototype and not even one tenth of time frame. Thereby, the technology and understanding of the most complex fighter flying tasks and execution of the task will see some phenomenal achievements in the days to come with limited experience.

Tejas journey has often seen lots of technicians, engineers, scientists, academicians, managers, directors and private participants. Apart from the above people, there are couple more who hardly get noticed.

Here, we bring two such gentlemen of the program.

MUNIRAJU(facing the camera) and UMESH NAIK (extreme right) : two wonderful persons in the team as far as our day to day work goes on a detachment.

It is nothing technical about their work, yet more than they mean.
Starting from pulling the GPUs, cooling trolleys to the desired location, polishing/cleaning the aircraft, doing all odd jobs around aircraft.... they are all countless.

To describe Umesh, one has to find an utility vehicle which he can not operate. There is hardly any vehicle in any of the airforce station he can not drive or operate, be it a fuel bowser or a tractor or a fork lift or a armory vehicle or a truck or a long flat bed trailer or the one seen it here(he is on the wheels), the list is never ending.
To top of it, he is a humble guy. Always smiling....

They are, in a true sense, the squirrel who participated in building the Ram Setu.

They are hardly seen complaining, cribbing or finding excuses for not doing the work.
To top of all these, what salary they earn .. meager.
Their dedication, which they hardly know, are exemplary.
The smiles in their faces, is another way of expressing selfless dedication towards work.
There are whole lot of people like Muni and Umesh in our set up.
Another reason to smile and get motivated.

^^ BR forums? Sorry i am new to DFI.

BTW these updates are from the comments section of Tejas FB page. Nothing scintillating to be precise, all reports that I see are inflated version of comments from FB pages.

Kind of dishearten to see no journalist has insider info on Tejas.

Indeed, it was mentioned updates from Facebook.

Anantha Krishnan M & Saurav Jha are only a few who will give you independent/honest informations on Tejas.

Other Paid Rajat type journalist will only report negative on Tejas news as per instructions from their Masters.. Few have their Master from Boieng, few from Saab and few from Rafael.

One can clearly see the difference in technology involved here. DERBY despite being a BVRAAM has a sleeker (may be lighter as well) and more compact launch rails than R-73's. Paython 5 also uses similar rails.

Presently, Astra MK-1 uses R-77's launch rails but after integration of Derby with LCA we might see switching to Israeli rails which will definitely save some weight.

Tejas trainer getting ready to undergo the high altitude and hot weather trials.

Interestingly, LCA-T is a different aircraft and hence it needs to acquire IOC separately. This detachment seems to be part of the process. I only hope it's in concluding segment of the process. Its availability is critical for the squadron service to begin in full swing. Best of Luck LCA-T.
