this is true behind . Development program..
Only partially true:
1) Air frame was not designed by French companies. LCA haters just say that anyhow.
2) Radar is a hybrid with antenna being Indian and backend being Elta EL/M-2032. Likely the Uttam AESA will also have to begin with a back end that is ported from the Elta EL/M 2052. In between you may see a full EL/M 2052 in the LCA Mk-1A.
3) Russian can easily supply the helmet cueing and ejection seat and even the engine so that is why the western nations are also supplying it. Just an off the shelf commercial transaction. Helps to diversify supply sources, which makes sense.
5) Missiles from Russians and Israelis are also simple commercial transactions and constitute an alternate to each other. In any case missiles are not LCA. In future you will see multiple kinds of Astra on the LCA.

Even the things that are not currently Indian are so only because, the people with divided loyalties have been able to subvert the program to that extent by underfunding it.

TEJAS TO REPLACE ALL MIG AIRCRAFT, SAYS ODISHA BORN CHIEF DESIGNER

Bhubaneswar: Padmashree Dr Kota Harinarayan, chief designer of Tejas, India’s indigenously developed light combat aircraft (LCA), today averred that the single-engine fighter aircraft recently inducted into the air force will soon replace all variants of the MIG in the near future.

Talking exclusively to OTV, the Berhampur-born scientist, who was on an Odisha visit to attend the ninth foundation day of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIT-BBS), said; “Tejas, which is very superior, will replace MIG-21, 23 and all other classes of the MIG aircraft. It is highly manoeuverable and has advanced technology. it is two generations ahead of the MIG-21. Globally, Tejas is considered to be the best technology.”

Tejas can carry different weapons and new weapon integration is easily possible with the light combat aircraft. Open architecture and the possibility of integration of new electronics make the Tejas a very advanced aircraft, he added.

“Tejas is far superior than the aircraft that the neighbouring country has. At present, they are having Mirage which is an old generation aircraft,” he said.

Commenting on the country’s arms capability, Harinarayan said, “The arms capacity, which is less at present, should be expanded by at least 10 times. This will help in arms export as well. I believe capacity will increase in the next two-three years.”

On the prospects of defence related industries in Odisha, Harinarayan said, “Nalco produces the finest aluminium. It can work on Lithium alloy on which I had worked with a Hyderabad-based firm. I would love to work on the project here as well.”
Besides, a lot of expansion in technology is needed in the State, he added.
He said the State government should think of setting up an airport in south Orissa so that the economy in the area will get a boost.

All the while, when the Tejas Air Force Version getting maximum attention, the naval version is slowly but steadily progressing with the tasks in hand. The prime task at present is to carry out the carrier compatibility tests which will enable the naval versions to land on a deck finally. The ramp take off is already done in day light and night for obvious objectives. The full potential of ramp take-off will be achieved soon. However, the task which is hovering around everybody's mind is the Arrestor Hook integration and the subsequent engagements. The post monsoon trials will see the beginning of a new era in Indian Naval Aviation.

If one looks at the naval aviation pioneers like USA and other countries, the experience and knowledge acquired by these countries are over decades probably closer to a century of naval flight testing have been achieved with numerous aircrafts. Whereas, a nation like us are trying to stand with similar achievement with ONE prototype and not even one tenth of time frame. Thereby, the technology and understanding of the most complex fighter flying tasks and execution of the task will see some phenomenal achievements in the days to come with limited experience.

In-flight refuelling probe testing to begin soon on LCA-Tejas

Capture.PNG

A nearly year ago UK based Company “Cobham” handed over in-flight refuelling probe for integration with LCA-Tejas MK-1 and now HAL is planning to start the first trial runs in next few weeks said informed sources close to idrw.org . Limited Series Production-8 (LSP-8) stopped flying from January this year and has been already integrated with supplied in-flight refuelling probe and land-based trials have been carried out after structural modification were performed on LSP-8 for probe integration which also saw software upgrades to enable fuel sensors to detect mid-air fuel supply and to show correct fuel capacity to pilots. LSP-8 will start flying again in next few weeks to conduct carriage trials before mockup dry trials will begin wherein the first phase IAF’s Ilyushin IL-78 air-to-air refuelling tanker aircraft and LSP-8 will carry out mockup mid-air refuelling where both aircraft will fly in close proximity to record and study behavior of the tanker’s fuel-transferring systems in the vicinity of the probe and the handling qualities of the aircraft. The second phase will see actual contact with the fuel transferring systems of tanker with the in-flight refuelling probe of LCA-Tejas aircraft but no fuel transfer will actually take place , tests will be repeated till it achieves 2-5 minutes in contact with tanker which is actual fuel transfer time usually taken by tanker to pump fuel into a fighter jet. Wet runs trials will be followed after completion of Dry run trials where actual fuel transfer will take place which may happen only in next year . Integration and demonstration of mid-air refuelling probe on LCA-Tejas are one of the key requirement to obtain Final Operational Clearance (FOC) . First, 20 IOC-II certified LCA-Tejas MK-1 will initially be produced and delivered without in-flight refuelling capacity but will be upgraded at a later stage since all aircraft will come with provision for pumps and fuel lines for IFR integration at a later stage.

Wet runs next year.. :frusty::frusty:

I am getting a bit impatient with this; FOC is getting delayed year after year. It is getting extremely disappointing :frown:. They should be make reasonable time schedule with goals and stick to it. Otherwise, all credibility is lost.

I have often stated.....its a talks and trials govt. I had big hopes initially from modi and parriker but somehow they want to generate hype and nothing more. I guess modi is too much focussed on trade deficit numbers so is not prepared for any defense imports including components. May go for indigenous products like akash but nothing with significant foreign components.
I do not expect them to change strategy.....but honestly...modi has now become too repetitive and while he continues to be honest....The defense forces will continue to suffer for lack of equipment.

I am not sure if he is honest either. self praising and propaganda are the new norms now. I somehow knew it from the beginning about this hyperbole government.

I was a meek spectator of this forum but sometimes one has to say. Tejas has been in development for 20+ years no one blamed UPA for that matter and I can be certain that had UPA continued we wouldn't have inducted those 2 either.

DM said he did 18+ RT conference with stakeholders to get it inducted yet people are so hasty and fidgety. Tejas aims to get FOC by March 2017, I am not sure whats the fuss then? Even if they do wet trial by early next year they have enough window to get it rolling. Moreover there are only handful of major addons in 1A, other major aviation tests are already done.

Meanwhile the first thing they need to get out is 18+ IOC Tejas before talking about FOC, and even if they get FOC by March next year they don't have inventory to crack things out. Technically with their current capacity it will take 2+ years for them to complete 1st squadron. So first FOC plane should roll out by mid-end of 2018. FOC or not makes no difference.

I dont want to delve deeper into what the government has done, which is a lot, but sometimes people just can't be happy. When they curb black money people stage protest and when they don't people accuse them, its like some people can never be satisfied no matter what.

Moreover HAL is not controlled and managed by government directly, HAL has bite off more than they can chew.

@sukhish - SO you have a crystal ball? Mind sharing some insights as well.

No soon as FOC is achieved, They can focus on MK1+ which shall be a real deal. You can induct tejas but most important of all is to make them war worthy.
