IAF to get first squadron of Tejas in July

NEW DELHI: After a wait of over three decades, the IAF will finally get its hands on the first squadron of indigenous Tejas next month with the delivery of the fourth Light Combat Aircraft.

However, the first squadron will be made of up of just four Tejas aircraft, in stark contrast to at least 16 aircraft that usually makes up for one squadron globally.

State-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, manufacturer of Tejas, will hand over the fourth aircraft to the Air Force on July 1.

The four aircraft will be used for training and familarisation.

Rather than waiting for LAC Mk II, IAF had decided to go in with an upgraded version of the existing Tejas with over 40 modifications.

The force wants Active Electrically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar, Unified Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite, mid-air refuelling capacity and beyond the vision range missiles.

As per the production plan, six aircraft will be made this year (2015-16) and HAL will subsequently scale it up to eight and 16 aircraft per year.

I'm happily surprised with HAL !!

SP2 made first flight only Mar 23, 2016.
And if they are delivering 2 more SP3 & SP4 in 3 months.. means production rate 8/year already achieved !!

There were also reports which say from SP5 onwards, production rate will increase due to automation.. Fingers crossed.

Well Done HAL !!

I am not sure of the SP4 part. I read the 4th plane was going to be a 2 seat trainer. So possibly an existing aircraft from LSP or something?

Yeah, one of senior member on BR confirmed it.. it's 3 fighter + 1 trainer forming First Squadron on 1st of July.

Anyway, this is enough for making a start for IAF.. and every few months new fighters will be getting added. Their target is to make 6 this year including SP3.

You looks to be Frustrated with recent success of work done by Parriker.

A Indigenous product here means less import.

100+ orders for LCA MK1A, Danish have been placed.
LCH is doing very well and in fact we r talking on its Export.
Aridhaman, Arihant are doing very well.

I don't know whether we have 3D printing machine for making metal parts.
No 3d printing machine was about to come almost a year ago. I read on BR that designing shall get movementum once 3D printing machine is received.

Aridaman with 125 KW reactor shall be 30+ knot sub like Akula class with 50% increased power to weight ratio. Bloody we shall chase anything and shoot them down with SLbrahmos. We have incorporated our, Russian and french submarine in it.

True I am frustrated.....but not at his success. ..but failure. I had expected.....something concrete.
by the way....Neither lca1a orders are placed nor dhanush. Dhanush still in trials and lca1a still paper.....no firm orders. Please confirm yourself before rebutting!
Arihant....trials. aridhaman...not even trials.

That's what I said...everything talks and trials only. You don't fight a war with paper planes and under trial equipment. How has he strenghened indian army till now?
He needs to overcome fear of signing new contracts!

I don't understand why Rafael is missing in your complaint list !!

I believe Manohar Parrikar has done more in 2 years than previous RM did in 10 years.. and mistakes of 10 years can't be fixed in couple of years..for defense products it's take time if u want to make them Indigenousy

Do u really believe any country can make Arihant & Aridhaman in just 2 years?

Everything takes time in this industry, it has been only two years(counting the time Jaitley was RM) and things are looking reasonably good.. RM has definitely corrected the course of the MoD without doubt. IAF simply rejecting Tejas was not an option.. He did good to make it clear to IAF that Tejas will be the Light Fighter solution for the country no matter what.. I think that is commendable.

An interview of RM where some of your questions might get answered :

That's talk again!
And most of tejas is still talk. Only action is 2 aircrafts produced. No engine orders yet meaning that no additional aircrafts can be produced beyond 20.

As I said all talks and trials.

Don't get me wrong......I will be too happy if he actually accomplishes something. ....but not much has actually happened.....apart from talks and trials. The proof that I want to see this happening lies in the fact that I am looking for happy news on webites such as this....and not see real action.

I don't want him to talk anything now. Just want confirmed news on new contracts being signed and actual deliveries to begin

F-16 push is on again. 'Block 60' plus.

F16 vs Gripen vs F18 vs Rafael.

Rafael will not kill Tejas.. it's too much expensive to be produced in numbers.

Rest three are direct OR indirect threat to Indigenous Tejas.

Dry price of Rafale (excluding training station, spares, Tools, bench...) = 80 millions $ each.

Once you have the first one or two squad, with support, tols, training station... it cost "only" 80 m$

When somebody compare cost of fighters, be aware it is in the same condition.
I read too much 60+ millions $ SH18 with a 200 millions $ Rafale.... It's not true. If SH = 60millions$, in the same condition Rafale = 80 millions$.
