Mk.1A is simply an electronics upgrade over Mk.1...it's supposed to have a new radar, fixed refueling probe addition etc. It is no different over the Mk.1 airframe.
It will be lighter in weight and shall have 8% lower drag 60 kg additional fuel. If the weight is reduced by 500 kg, than this plane shall perform totally differently. simulation study of vivek ahuja has revealed this.

Do not expect a major weight reduction.. not in 100s of Kg.

60 kg fuel is enough....we need higher combat radius

Combat radius has many variable to account for. Tejas's 500 KM radius may very well be in lo-lo-lo flight profile which worst in terms of fuel economy. Often than not fighters on active sell has its combat radius advertised with Hi-Hi-Hi as standard profile.

Don't you think with weight reduction and less drag we will achieve higher combat radius compared to now??
Weight reduction and less drag will ofcourse improve the combat radius. Not only that, its range, combat range and ferry range will also increase. The new version will become light, so can travel more distance. Lesser drag will result to more agileness. Simple logic.

Definitely i will expect. dead weight of 100 or 200 kg is sure to go. Landing gear weight is sure to reduce. Many LRUS shall be merged resulting in weight reduction. many more part are on card to be converted into composite.

Definitely. They both are going to increase speed, acceleration and range/combat radious. It will have 20% better transsonic acceleration, 2% high top speed at see level etc. o definitely it will have longer range as well. Other parameters shall also improve.

LCA Tejas 'missed' target during Iron Fist 2016: IAF official

The Air Force on Monday said the Laser Guided Bomb (LGB) fired by indigenously-built Light Combat Aircraft Tejas had "missed" the target during the Exercise Iron Fist 2016 but refused to call it a "failure".

On Friday, in an impressive show of firepower, the IAF had put up a dazzling display of its military prowess and a senior official then had said that Tejas "hit the target". Another Mirage assault aircraft also could not fire at the target during the triennial exercise due to bad weather, he said. "The LGB fired from the LCA (Tejas) missed the target and we are looking at it as to why it occurred. There was a malfunction of the bomb," a senior air force official said, adding, there was "no fault" of the pilot or with the aircraft itself.

The official declined to call it a "failure", saying it is "extremely ordinary (routine) for a missile to hit the target". The accuracy of the weapons to hit a target varies and the overall accuracy rate of the weapon is generally in 90-93 per cent range, he said. "It had gone very close to the target," he added. The IAF demonstrated its might using a series of assault platforms, including the indigenously-built surface-to-air missile Akash, which was fired for the first time in any exercise.

Varied range of fighter and transporter jets and helicopters also featured in the exercise which the IAF carries out every three years. The event also saw LCA Tejas and Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) firing Missile 73E. It could not be seen with the naked eye whether the missile fired by Tejas had hit the target. IAF spokesperson Wing Commander Rochelle D'silva had then said, "the target was hit".

The Mirage also did not fire owing to the bad weather. "The weather was not conducive and then seconds before the missile could be fired, the pilot did not see the target. We did not want to take any chance as the VVIPs were there, so we told the pilot not to fire," the official said.

Who checks authenticity of these quoted officials?

Lots of hazy reports will emerge. More so as this new DPP-2016 goes online with Indian Designed, Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) category getting priority one. This Modi government is determined to get indigenous defense manufacturing online. As it accelerates the things, many will lose billions of dollars and one in particular , let me name it, PRC China will face new competitor in low price market. Also as our dependence on foreign vendors cuts down our enemies will have to re-think their strategies for tackling us. These people will go entire length and breadth to off track Modi government. Just like they successfully did during recent Bihar election.

Worried but optimistic.

Hard to explain exactly. Before it was KH XXXX on LSP and PV vehicles. Where last number will denote vehicle no and KH was for Kota Harinarayan. Same here SP-1 has 5001, similarly one with 5002 must be SP-2. However can't make our what's LA stands for.
I was thinking KH for Karnataka :p

This is more worrying.
Pilot training can be improved. And if it missed because of the realistic accuracy radius of the weapon, it is understandable.
But a malfunction is critical.
What does this say of about the state of the IAF's weapon inventory.

But glad that the LCA platform is consistently performing so well.
