nrj the report you posted doesn't conclude the numbers (if i missed some concrete number please correct me) so i request you to stop throwin the numbers which you conclude as your personal opinion.
I threw exact number in only one post that too while agreeing with Agan's speculation.

All I'm trying to tell here from last many post is "NLCA won't be frontline fighter on any of the IN carriers." It is a logical to understand this from the various reports.
It is my observation & thus I am connoting while understanding the meaning "between the lines".

Feel free to disagree with my conclusion.

ok leave it Well Just curious when NLCA was conceived as front line fighter for navy. I think it was always considered as complimentary to MiG29K

i heard that lca is made of different composite of materials which reduces its weight soo much...
in what way the weight of a fighter important in war field ?

can i know then whats the problem for our people/politicians to defend the hard work of our scientists.

can i know wether lca have capabilities to strike in china/pakistan (when needed) as its a different terrain and do it have all terrain/climate feautures

Let me clear of the speculation that my number created. I got this number from a reliable source. NLCA final shape (not abt PV-5) will take atleast 4 years to get finalised and the product will be evolved over the time. but NLCA is very limited number when compared to the LCA. Navy may go in large number for the NGFA for sure. NLCA will be a replacement for the sea harriers

The LCA is constructed of aluminium-lithium alloys, carbon-fibre composites (C-FC), and titanium-alloy steels. The Tejas employs C-FC materials for up to 45% of its airframe by weight, including in the fuselage (doors and skins), wings (skin, spars and ribs), elevons, tailfin, rudder, air brakes and landing gear doors. Composites are used to make an aircraft both lighter and stronger at the same time compared to an all-metal design, and the LCA's percentage employment of C-FCs is one of the highest among contemporary aircraft of its class.

The main thing which shape the result of a dogfight is the fusion of pilots skill and his jet`s capability. A lightweight feature of a jet extremely useful in a dogfight. It enables the jet to take quick turns in very less distance. Additionally it obviously increases the speed and because of the design of tejas it can perform extremely fast barrel rolls and other crucial moves.

With due respect I disagree you because according to my knowlegde till now, sea-harriers were the main combat naval jets of the IN the NLAC`s are ordered to replace the aging sea harrier. So it is clear that NLAC are going to be the the main frontline fighters. Reason is simple, they`r the main replacement of sea harriers, they are extensively better than the mig-29`s and above all of them...they are Indiginous. Look, having an indiginous weapon always makes a big difference than the puchased ones because of the numbers built, quality control, friendly handing and also of its "lightweight" factor. And in the case of the NLAC`s, the mig-29 are no match before it and this is a fact. The upcoming years will conform that.

I think my previous post can help in the NLCA & frontline issue...

Now i would want you to please elaborate that how Mig-29K is "no match" for NLCA? :)

well just to add in , NLCA can actuality take of with full load on the Vikramaditya , as opposed tot he MIg-29 .
The Navy can see use for the aircraft for at least one of its carriers.

Then probably relegate most of the Mig-29's to the IAC . with only a few if any NLCA

IAC 2 will use CATOBAR configuration so the MIg-29's cant be adapted. the NMRCA and NLCA mau work together on that ship.
This becomes even more likely if , the LCA-mk2/NLCA use the same engine as the NMRCA plane , making it far easier on logistics.

in the end , NLCA meets the Navy;s long term requirements more than the Mig-29k

yes it is made up of what is broadly called as - "carbon composites".

it's advatages are multifold!!!

coming to weight - it gives a 20% reduction in weight as compared to a similar dimensioned aircraft based on the metal - which is normally - alluminium alloys.

what it means is if you build 2 LCA's - one based on the composites and another based on alluminium alloys with similar dimensions - the one with carbon composites will weigh 20% less compared to the other!!!

now, this weight reduction will translate into that much extra/heavier payload that can be carried with the engine being the constant. if you do not want to carry the extra ordinance, the reduced weight of the a/c will result in better accelaration, maneourability of the aircraft. both are very important in a war.

besides,

the composites have a major factor when it comes to reduction in RCS!!! meaning the aircraft is less probable to be detected by the enemy translating into better survivability and a better chance to get the enemy down. composites are known to have minimal radar reflections. adding to this is less number of joints and rivets that bind the different blocks of the airframe of the LCA - making it simpler to build and again does its bit in terms of reduction in radar reflections. this is achieved by integrated multiple blocks into single blocks. besides LCA being tiny in size adds its own element of low RCS by design.

can i know then whats the problem for our people/politicians to defend the hard work of our scientists.
may be we suffer from pride factor!!

pakistan has very shallow depth in terms physical geography (if you look at their map) and hence LCA will be able to go much deeper to strike. with IFR, range is taken care. however as to china it won't be able to go deep and will remain close to our borders. this is because china has vast geographical depth and a 2 men crew in a heavy fighter like SU 30 MKI will do a better job. read about the 2 men crew advantage which has been explained by different people in the SU 30MKI thread.

thanks:)
congracts to our team of scientists

so weight of the fighters doesnot play a major role in modern warfare when compared to other feautures?

what aditional feautures does lca mark 2 gonna carry?

why no mention of LSP 3?
lca-tejas.org is not the official site for LCA. it is here http://www.ada.gov.in/

LCA-Tejas has completed 1341 Test Flights successfully. (12-Apr-10).

* LCA has completed 1341 Test Flights successfully
(TD1-233,TD2-305,PV1-242,PV2-134,PV3-210,LSP1-59,LSP2-147,PV5-11).

though even this is not updated as for as lsp 3 (we know it flew much later than 12th april) is concerned but you can see PV-5 has done 11.
