Its not okay but we cannot control it.
Its just preparing yourself upfront for the delay that's gonna happen.

Delay is not due to being stuck with something technical but with unavailability of few products hence there is gonna be no learning during this new delayed tenure you ready to accept.
FOC on Dec 2015 or March 2016 is not going to make any difference as first 20 tejas will be in IOC configuration and HAL will take their own time delivering it.

I believed that IAF has requested all Tejas As FOC standard.
Even if that's not the case Shifting FOC deadline with three month has an impact on other ongoing projects where the skill and manpower being used in Tejas MK1 is required which will lead to delays in other ongoing projects as well.
At top of it If you have set a guideline meet it at any cost.
This shifting deadlines adds to "Chalta Hai" Attitude if you have committed it then you must deliver it.

Delay is never welcomed. But how can we squarly blame DRDO when Cobham is failing to deliver Quartz nose cone.

yes we can blame them.
There is something that we call planning and scheduling.
Quartz nose cone is such an important component they must have kept the Cobham on there toes and actively tracked it.
They must have kept a buffer if they were not willing to take any pain.

Note : If they had felt 1 year buffer was good then they should have given 2 years instead.

So yes I can blame ...
Not really DRDO but ADA they are the responsible body.

DRDO & ADA are working on Fighter and considering advance technology involved in these things.. 3 month delay is accepted. F35 is also delayed !!

Focus should be on Production Lines and making them in number. If they work properly, they can even recover these 3 months delay in production.

The strong import lobby move to close down tejas is all prevalent!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outgoing Director of Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Programme Director (Combat Aircraft) P S Subramanyam says that there were massive efforts by a section to close the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas project in 2007.
The Distinguished Scientist and the man who spearheaded the project for the last 10 years, was speaking to this Correspondent, probably his last interview to the media as the Tejas boss.
Subramanyam, retired from the services today after attending an official farewell organized by Team ADA at its Bengaluru facility near Old Airport Road.
The soft-spoken man hailing from Vijayawada, spearheaded the programme from 2005, after taking over the reins of ADA from M B Verma.
Subramanyam is the second largest serving chief of ADA (10 years), after Dr Kota Harinarayana, who had served the project for 16 years till 2002.
We bravely retrieved the project: “Yes, I can tell you that we had to wade through several pressures while taking this project forward. In 2007, the programme saw one of its worst periods. It was almost like to be or not to be. I can proudly say that we bravely retrieved the project and gave the shape it is in now,” Subramanyam said.
He said there were several meetings held virtually to close the programme. “I stood ground and gave the confidence to the government that it is a doable project and we will deliver it on time. The rest is history and we never looked back,” he added.
Admitting that the ‘2007 project closer move’ came as a jerk to the team, Subramanyam said neither he nor his team ran away scared.
“Yes, we were shaken, but we knew we had a challenging task on hand. In the next two years (2007 to 2009) we demonstrated the capabilities of stores, sensors and weapon integration.
He also revealed that there were several occasions in the past that many wanted to merge ADA with some other organisations.
“So, while taking on the technology challenges of LCA, I has the head of ADA had to deal with other issues as well,” he added.
FOC will be in by March 2016: He refused to name the people who were acting against Tejas project and ADA during 2007. “Names don’t matter now as we have moved on. Let’s focus on the current status of the project. Nothing can stop the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) completion now. By 2016 March, the FOC will be done,” he said.
When asked about the most challenging task he had to undertake as the Tejas project chief, the NIT Warangal top brain said: “I had no command on any of the stakeholders in the programme, barring ADA. Yet, I managed to get the support of everyone, which is what I am proud of.”
He said the media never had the correct appreciation of the time and cost of the programme.
“With Rs 7500 crore making 14 aircraft and establishing a production line, is far superior than the expenditure twice incurred in any other programme of the world,” Subramanyam added.

Subramanyam says we will see first prototype of LCA Mk-2 in 2018. if this is the case.I genuinely doubt that LCA MK1.5 is going to see light of the day.

I know its not that simple and do trust me as I have actually met few deadlines for an a/c its not that difficult as well to stick to you deadlines.
The deadlines are usually set by tech arch who are very well experienced and know in and out of everything .
remember FOC is not being postponed for the first time.
On the contrary its yet not official postponed they might postpone it .
I am only saying I will not be happy with such an action that's all I am saying.

why not.. i think it will take 3-4 yrs before it can clear all tests and ready for production by 21-22. In these 3-4 years we can produce MK1.5s so that production can continue.

I do agree till some extent.....But
If HAL keep there word then 40 Tejas MK1 can be delivered to IAF by 2019 .
If ADA works well then Tejas MK2 will fly in 2018 but it will take 3-4 more years to enter production by 2021 hence there is a gap of three years when we can build as many as possible Tejas MK1P.

what is the combat radius of tejas Mk-1&2
Saab Gripen has more combat radius(800km) than tejas.
I would like to know both planes are almost same in dimensions then why gripen has more combat radius?

The combat radius of tejas in IOC-2 was about 500 Kms.
In IAF combat radius is a combo of low level -high level flying along with a few minutes of loitter over target and some close combat time.
But brochure writers abroad follow very different standards. SO if you want to to know the real picture on effective combat radius you can go by the figure fuel fraction i.e weight of fuel/weight of aircraft .In this respect there is no difference between tejas and gripen. Infact tejas is a few fractional points better if you compare gripen C with mk1. For gripen NG you should compare with tejas mk2. And there wont be much of a difference.

All those fantastic stories about drag in tejas are simply stories. tejas mk2 will have 5 percent lesser drag than tejas mk1 after drag reduction exercise.Nothing substantial that can affect range of tejas mk1.

Immediate goals for LCA by new ADA chief CMD Balaji
I must say I am stepping in with two key priorities. The FOC for IAF programme has to be met by early next year. Then comes the carrier capability trails of naval variant towards the end of 2016

Somewhere i read ge 404 production has been closed down. If so we can't add mk1. 5, instead update mk1 to mk1. 5
