Not unexpected. 4 years for integrating the F-414 is expected. ADA's schedule of getting the FOC done by 2020 is unrealistic.

More importantly, regardless of the LCA being successful or not, it is obsolete. Especially considering even Sweden's air force believes Gripen C/D will be obsolete.

Sources in the defense ministry say the delay has been largely due to uncertainty over the feasibility of the LCA Mk II aircraft, with questions over the possibility of the integration of a new engine into the aircraft,

@JBH22, I dont see many failed projects as much as paid media try to project, There are few failed and many success..

If you doubt my words, you can always check MOD annual report of almost every year from 1999..

another white elephant in the long list of failed projects
Possibly, Lack of awareness..

why are people advocating grippen NG for IAF?'

If its not in the airforce its a failure as simple as that sir

Its is in the Airforce and flying in IAF colors since last dec Sir, you can check goggle for a sec, if you want..
Nopes sir...

1 squadron in the south is far from what had been envisaged when this program was initiated.

Not a single aircraft that flies in IAF has a better combination of asea and meteor missile and lower RCS than Tejas.
It is the one best suited for air to air interception mode along with rafale in future, considering the lowest RCS after rafale.
All other fighters like sukhoi, mig-29,mig-21,mirage-2000 have much higher RCS than tejas and can be picked up at a longer distance than tejas. And they dont have asea as well.mk-2 will have one of the best thrust to weight ratio as well with higher powered ge engine as well..

And still I dont know who was the retard genius sourceat the MOD who made the discovery of saving the new GE-414 engines from being covered in dust.

Motivated reports like this one are a legion in the net when it comes to arjun mbt and tejas LCA.

Just put a few hard questions regarding the basic design and these reporting guys will run with their tails between the leg without looking back.

You can always spot these reports from the following details, the point to note is,

1.These reports dont compare the time frame of modern fighter development programs like typhoon and rafale to tejas,

2.They will be always silent in what has been achieved till then, whether it is 10 percent or 90 percent.

3.What was the reason for the delay?whether it is due to design incompetence or delay in funding(the funding for TD s started only in 1993, and that too as per the 1983 ASR.)

4.Whether user requirements were changed in the middle leading to a much better product with more features than the originally aimed product?

5.if it is so whether the time delay is due to the re engineering for the new user requirements?

6.What are the remaining technological challenges?

7.Whether a higher powered engine can enhance the performance to a higher level or not?

to say IAf is obsolete means the entire IAf fleet is obsolete.
mk-2 will be an enhancement of mk-1.SO it wont take the same time as mk-1 to test and get FOC.The rest is how fast the HAL which is a glorious license producer of all the air crafts in the world will ramp up the production line of tejas?

Faster production will lead to faster testing with higher number or planes available for testing.PAKFA has 4 planes available for testing within a couple of years of first test flight.
Compared to that lca mk-1 was restricted to two TDs from 1993(funding started ) to 2004, that too with old ASR of 1983.
Only after the TDs validated the performance of
fly by wire,
composite tech
all glass cockpit
and basic aerodynamic configuration did MOD released funding for LSPs.That was the reason for the delay in mk-1.
mk-2 wont follow the same approach, as all it's tech was tested in mk-1,faster production of air crafts and the higher number of them available for testing will speed up the program.
Even grippen NG 's developmantal program has been related to further new orders from overseas,
but mk-2 twjas doesnot have that uncertainity either.
So any talk of grippen NG in place of tejas mk-2 is a waste of time, as there is no such ourchasing program is there.

An Aircraft should have means to defend itself from threads from Air, Ground and electronic attacks..

An Aircraft should have means to attack threads of Air, Ground and electronically..

An Aircraft should have means of communication to other Air, Ground formations..

The easy question is what aircraft in IAF is not obsolete what is the tech para dime are we comparing them?

If i am not wrong usa dragged the deal, there is a news article 6 months around that usa is putting silly condition that LCA shouldn't be used against pak. Even if use it shouldn't crash into pak like that.
~Now the blame squarely put on LCA and Mod.

After rafale, tejas has the lowest RCS meaning it's detection by enemy fighter will be later than any other craft in IAF .
After rafale it will have asea radar with a detection range of 120 plus km atleast.Even the upgraded mig-29 doesnot have it,meaning LCA can discreetly target the enemy aircraft with more resistance to jamming.
After rafale it will have the latest METEOR 120 km missile in IAF.
And it'sThrust to weight ratio will be highest in iaf in mk-2 version.
The mk-1 will have higher powered engine and actuators meant for amca with even more reduced weight ,because the hydraulic actuators can be replaced with all electrical actuators.

Does that mean all 150 odd tejas of IAf and navy will be based only in south.
Sukhoi is also about to be stationed in tanjore airbase in south.

AFAIK, the IN20 engine is designed for 90KN thrust but it is starved for air at low and high AOA speeds and fails to produce even 84KN thrust in such regimes. To overcome these air starvation, Aux intakes have been added with slight improvements to inlet duct to ensure that IN20 achieves its designed thrust.
The f414EPE engine even if derated to 98KN will require a bigger intake and inlet duct. Military engines fall under low bypass category and F414EPE engine has a bypass ratio of 0.4 compared with 0.3 of M88 engine. This means that engine bypasses 40% of air that it sucks to cool the engine or for other services. So as you increase the trust of this engine, the air intake will need to be increased substantially.
As per news report this F404-GE-402: engine of 79 kn is the one on tejas Pvs and LSPs.
or the IN 20 already arrived and already fitted on any LSP?

Sir I don't know where you got the 100odds figures because only 1 Indian Tejas MK1 will be inducted in IAF and the MK2 well its still a long way to go.

I guess the "made in India" brand for IAF is still years to come :)

All aircrafts are grounded many times in their service life due to one issue or another ,and after rectifying the fault they all then they start flying. So while the RCS which doesn't matter when grounded will matter a bit more when they start flying.
