57 PAF officials arrested over links with terrorists

ISLAMABAD: Over 50 Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officials have been court marshaled following arrest on charges of having links with terrorists while an important PAF official who is also wanted is at large.

According to information gathered from Geo News source, action against some of the PAF officials over links with terrorists began in former president Pervez Musharraf’s regime.

More arrests were undertaken after a PAF official Mushtaq was apprehended. As many as 57 officials were arrested from Kamra, Lahore, Sargodha, Mianwali and Karachi. Of these, 26 had to face court marshal who were awarded three and half to 17 year imprisonment while six were awarded capital punishment on involvement in serious crimes.

Those awarded death sentence are: senior technicians, Karamdin, Khalid Mehmood; carpool technician Nawazish; junior technicians, Niaz, Nasrullah and Adnan.

A wanted carpool technician Amir is still at large whose photos have been affixed at all the air bases.

Finally, the links of establishment with terrorists comes out in open. Anyways, we knew that Pakistani armed forces is nothing but a sophisticated terrorist organization sponsoring terrorism in India (Mumbai attacks, Kargil fiasco, Attack on Parliament). I'm sure there will be many more to be unearthed.

Good first step, but a long way to go. The real challenge is doing the same thing with the Pakistan Army. I don't think that's going to ever happen.

These arrests should not make one feel that there is a change in the mindset in Pakistan.

The fundamentalists and Taliban is not only a threat to the world, but also to the Pakistani elite, who are English speaking and have been educated in convents and English schools in Pakistan and abroad. Most of them are of the feudal class. The Taliban is a threat to their position in Pakistani society.

PAF denies officials' links to terror groups

Karachi, June 26: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has rebuked media reports that said at least 57 of its officials were arrested on charges of having links with various militant groups, saying none of its employees have been arrested in the past five years.

A statement issued by the PAF said that after 2003, when some PAF personnel were arrested in connection with the assassination attempt on the life of then President General Pervez Musharraf, none of its officials have been taken into custody, The Daily Times reports.

Earlier, it was reported that as many as 57 PAF employees were arrested on the charges of having links with extremists and involvement in anti-state activities.

It was also revealed that out of the 57 arrested officials, 26 had to face court martial and awarded 3 to 17 years imprisonment, and six others were awarded capital punishment during Musharraf's regime.

When enquired about the issue, the Pakistan Air Force spokesman Air Commodore Humayun Waqar said that the arrests were made two years ago, and it was in accordance with the law
