KATHMANDU, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Nepali police arrested two armed group members with explosives in capital Kathmandu, local newspaper The Kathmandu Post reported Friday.

The two people belong to Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Rajan Mukti Samuha (JTMM-R, Rajan Mukti Samuha faction of "Terai Democratic Liberation Front"), an underground armed outfit active in south Nepal's Terai plains.

They were arrested with three grenades, two socket bombs, and two hand grenades from Nagdhunga on Tuesday.

According to a senior police officer, the arrests have "prevented potentially heavy casualty inside the Valley."

The arrested were identified as Prakash Kumar Karna and Mithilesh Kumar Yadav. Karna is in charge of JTMM-R Saptari district in south Nepal, while Yadav is from India.

Based on the duo's confessions, Nepali police said they had planned to plant the bombs in different public places inside Kathmandu.
