    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

Do you see the potential for your idea to be an absolute clusterfuck in terms of logistics at the battlefront? Guns with multiple lines of production, lack of interchangeable parts at supply depots, problems with training on so many platforms are just some of the many problems. Kalyani is the...

    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

It's more due to the cost of the weapon sights. India recently approved 1400 crore as per the DPB to buy ~ 29760 II sights for Sig 716i which is less then half of the Army's quota for 66,400 out of the 72,400 guns ordered and double the price (700 crore) of the actual rifles...

In other words reinvent the Galil. The INSAS has become a cautionary tale for weapons design.

I did compare it to the MP7. They have some significant differences : 5.56x30 >>> 4.6x30 mm The MP7 is 1 Kg lighter than the JVPC. The HK33 style of charging handle on the JVPC will not allow for a full length picatinny rail. The barrel issue is true, however there is a catch. To...

I seriously don't get the bitching done over the JVPC. It's one of the best PDWs on the planet and looks sexy as hell. Give credit where it is due.

As a general thumb rule of weapons design, good looking guns are often well designed ones. M1911 M4A1 AKM FN FAL HK33 SCAR-H

This is a Sig 556 See the problem? The OFB carbine looks like some one left this in the microwave for too long. For reference, this is 10 year old design and Sig Sauer does not actively promote it.

    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

Debunked? Those guys are doing trials for their sniper rifle with Indian Army and have a JV with LMT which makes some of the best AR 15/10 rifles in the world! If OFB gets the contract, you will see another INSAS style replacement 10 years down the line. Better to reduce damage now than later...

OFB clearly has no idea about weapon ergonomics. Same spot welded sights, disjointed picatinny rail, non ergonomic stock, no picatinny rail for foregrip or grenade launcher/flashlight, no muzzle device options, weird pistol grip, questionable QC I hope the private sector gets this tender.

    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

Wow the OFB Carbine shows so many errors in design! Spot welded sights, no full length rail, no ambidextrous charging handle, no muzzle devices, no ergonomic stock and a badly designed sling attachment.

    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

India is familiar with AKs and on a per unit cost, the AK is cheaper than the GALIL due to less licensing fees ($1100 vs $1600 for initial batch). As for 6.8 mm, until the US Army inducts it and NATO also begins standardization, it will be a very uncommon caliber. Coincidentally, UAE Caracal...

    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

Based on my observations, I believe that given budget and COVID restrictions, Indian Army was given a choice of either a repeat order of Sig 716i or the CAR 816 for FTP. Indian Army would be fighting professional armies at the border in mountains with LVL III+/IV armor plates. Thus the .308...
